Hi bigray,
When I started riding, bikes had girder forks, rigid frames and poor brakes but the big ones would go 100mph. To chop or bob all the extra tin and plastic off a modern bike to get back to the basic machine is fine. To remove the rear suspension, fit a gas tank sized for a cigarette lighter, swap the teles for a springer and the dual front disks for a teensy drum brake? There's this other string on the list called "Why I am a dork"

go to a junk yard and pick your basics from bikes that have 'seen better days'
, check on fleabay or with your favorite dealer for the new or, not abused pieces
and, make or, have made, the remainder of the parts that you need to create your masterpiece.
(I'm jealous
)
