  • XS1100 Special Condition

Not Shiny anymore but no rust. The tank is fading and the seat needs to be re-covered, but otherwise looks good. Runs great, and still goes like thunder!

    • I just put mine back on the road. It is in no way mint or original. But looks nice for a daily rider.

      • A Nice Pair

I purchased both of my bikes off E-bay. The '79 Special was a runner and the '80 MNS had been parked since '11 and was going to be my project bike.

The '79 Special I was told had just been set up for the riding season when the owner got incapacitated and couldn't ride any more. Seller stated the only known defect was the starter button and the nonfunctional tachometer.

Heh, right-o, pull my other leg for good measure.

After I got it titled and got a tank of gas through it the starter button took a trip, then the starter stopped working after if blew a fuse and its been sitting in my garage as I go through the entire harness reconditioning every connection and making sure all the grounds are good. Last step is to rip out the old fuse block and wire in the new blade type block.

I'm also replacing the brake fluid front and rear to Dot 5, changing the gear oil out to Royal Purple, hitting all the bearings with new grease and I may even respray the tank, side covers and luggage to get rid of the rattle can finish that's on all of it now with all the sags and runs you could expect from one. Already did the quick release for the seat and some minor inconsequential mods to the luggage.

Sure was a hell of a way to get re-introduced to fixing a motorcycle.
E-bay sellers love me from all the spare parts I'm buying from them, glad they are so cheap and available.

I can't wait to see what's going on with the MNS but I already know I'm going to need to rebuild the brake systems and fuel diaphragms because the front brakes don't work and the tank tried to drain out the airbox this weekend when I went to pull off the tank to empty it. Bike has never had anyone do anything to it from what I could see other than adding a battery tender to it. I suspect it's going to be easier to get running than the '79.

All of my bikes are projects, maybe one day I'll have them running.

              • XS1100 Condition

I love going to rallys and have at least one person recognize my bike is and know how awsome it is. In all the years, i've yet to run into another XS11, even at a Yahama Day at Raceway Park (NJ). It even stood-out at Wildwood's "Roar to the Shore" which is a major Harley-fest.

I just wish I could find a good bike machinac who will work on it for me (since I just don't do that anymore).

My SF is not at all perfect, but good enough for me to enjoy thoroughly. I'm savoring the fall riding before I break it down for the Dremel dental fix .

It was almost 60 degrees yesterday. The road is still sloppy with salt & sand and melting snow, but i'm itching to RIDE!!!

I spent 30 yrs in NJ myself...if the roads wernt completely clean I would not take the bike out...brine spray and sand and not user friendly...LOL...BTDT with wiping out at a corner of sand...

                            • Time to Ride

Gonna be warm and sunny. The roads are pretty clean, though there are still left-over pot-holes to beware of ..... i've already had a couple of short rides, so i'm hoping for a longer cruise tonight and maybe tomorrow.

Still hoping to finally run into some fellow XS-11s this Spring/Summer/Fall.

                              • condition

My bike is not spec only because of the exhaust. It's not very good but good useable condition as I ride it every day and the weather over here is very hit and miss. Normally miss!
