    Re: My 78 XS

After I bought the bike,( I didn't know too much about them when I bought it), I realized that I have a "High Brid" or a "Low Brid" or what ever you want to call it. The MV office goes by the Ser# on the frame which is for a '78, the wiring and most of the frame are '78, the motor is '82 and all the other stuff is???
    But it is all XS/XJ
All I know is that it ran quite well during the summer and now I am going to give her a little needed attention as it is all I have to work with.
Oh and I couldn't get the smile off my face after I brought it back down from 190 Km/ 120mph

      WildKat,
dragxs11's bike looks NICER in person. He had it at the last two Tahoe Ralleys, and both times it wa the nicest bike there.

The header is just painted, I didn't know about Jet Hot ceramic coating then. The silver paint, I picked out of a pallet at a local paint shop and had my favorite painter slap it on with a clearcoat. Engine paint is POR-15. The seat is at Sargent Custom Upholstery now, and I'll be puting a rack/backrest and big windshield on it soon since the Beemer is now my solo speed bike.

Looks like that took some vison. More than I've got. Here's a pic of my brothers midnight. Just finished. Only 10K on it, so most of the work is cosmetic because coastal weather had taken it's toll on the finish.[IMG][/IMG]

That picture sucks though. I took it with my phone.

                                Thanks...
I got it as-is, except it was in boxes and the exhausts are new (not the headers tho). OK and the handlebars and mirrors. Didnt have the headlight and instrument cluster. Got those from ebay.
This bike sat in a junkyard in Italy for a while, I suspect it sat at a service guy before that. The owner probabbly didnt pay the bill, so it ended up in the junkyard, where PO got it as a parts bike for his 79F. This was in 1991 or so. He didnt really need any parts, so it sat dissassembled in his attic/basement (heavy engine) until I got it from him for a bit over $500 US. The service sticker says 23.000 km in 1986 and when I got it, all the fluids in the engine/final drive were new. OK, old, but unused, so the milage cant be far off. I put it back together, put in fresh oils, filters, some gas, battery from my other XS and it started on the first push of a button. And ran smooth. No sputtering, smoking, nothing. All I have to do now is get a new set of spark plugs and tires and Im good to go for the next gazillion years (or next oil/filter change).
My old old 78E has full vetter stuff on. Fairing (windjammer IV/SS and vetter bags and topcase). It is currently waiting for 5th gear fix, small service and tuning. Alltho I might sell it in the spring. Not sure yet. I decided I dont like all the barn door fairing stuff on a bike anyway, and it would be rather pointless to have two bikes of a same model and the old one would only sit in a garage not being used much. It deserves better. If I sell it, Im finally getting me a guzzi.
