  • This is how it looked like when I got it. I got the fairing off ebay for the 78E, so it wasnt the part of the package. It seems funny all those parts... looks like something is missing, but its all there. The whole bike. (except centerstand, flasher canceling unit and battery holder upper thingie that got lost somewhere at PO's house, gotta find em).

If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

    • Hi Guys,

These pics have appeared on the site before, but both bikes are in bits so I cannot get fresh pics until they are finished. I have five XS11's including a hardtail chop and a trike.

This one started life as a British-spec "E"- Like your 2H7!

It now has a frame by Eurocustom, Sportster bodywork, and the running gear from the SG I imported from Colorado about 15 years ago. It now looks like this-

The pic was taken just before I put the exhaust back on!

It has a 17" rear and 18" front wheels, forks and brakes from an EXUP and GSXR carbs. It Dynos at 95 bhp.
I have just taken it to bits again to fit a braced swing arm and three-spoke wheels.

If it ain't broke, modify it!

        • Such purdy scooters!
Here are a couple of shots of mah baybeh. It was rusted and had a ragged seat when I bought it about 5 years ago. I threw a sheepskin over the seat to hide the rips and exposed foam and painted the rusted pipes and mufflers black. I had to send the tank to L.A. to get it rinsed and epoxy lined, and I had some electrical problems the first year, both directly attributable to its having sat in the rain uncovered for Lord knows how long before I bought it!
Last year I found a parts bike sitting on the street red- tagged. There was a lot missing from it, but the engine, sans carbs, was all there. I got a pick- up truck and a couple of friends and scooped it up. It now sits in my driveway waiting for me to strip every part off of the engine that I can without pulling it. The head and cylinders will get black anodized, the outside of the fins polished. Everything else gets powder-coated silver, and the exhaust pipes and “muffler” will be sent off to get ceramic coated “brushed aluminum.” Next step will be to take all the corresponding parts off my bike, install new cam chain and rings, and put it back together with all the “purdy parts.”
Other than maybe adding an oil cooler for a possible trip to Texas this Summer, I don’t see making any other changes: it’s the bike I’ve always dreamed of owning since I was 12 years old!

Here’s another shot that I like showing the incredible versatility of this bike!

Here’s a thought: I’ve taken a couple of terms of Photoshop and Illustrator. Would anyone be interested in a 2008 calendar featuring some of these fabulous bikes? I would give a free calendar or 2 to anyone whose bike was featured and sell the rest for, say $20. Would I hope to make some money? Well, yeah. Do I hope to get rich? Mu waha-ha-ha-ha! No.

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
          I've been riding since 1959.

          • E.Liberty,
I really like that exhaust. Are those the MAC 4-2 turn-outs?
            How do you like them?
Is there much of a performance difference without the cross-over?
I'd like tp get a custom fab exhaust with Jardine type headers and Mac turn-outs.
All ceramic coated black of course.

            • Calendar

I think that is a great idea! You could use a pic of my bike, and possibly a pic of both of my Specials for the pic of my birth month. Possibly use a just a regular pic for the top of the page, and print the calendar grid over a pic of another bike, so two bikes could be seen on each month.

              • I think we need a calender regardless if my bike is in it or not If it was really nice, I would want to get a bunch extra. I would want to give one to everyone who usually gives me an HD calender every year. well, its a thought.

Don't know who made the pipes... wish I did, but I like them! They sound gnarley when I'm riding alongside one of those concrete deviders! The turnouts direct the sound outwards and the sound bouncing back sounds like a WWII dive bomber! My buddy Ray has expressed some annouyance after rideing beside me for a while, however.
Having never ridden another setup I can't speak to the difference in power, but I have heard it said that the 4 into 2 gives more low end torque, and the 4 into 1 delivers more high end power. My bike has plenty of torque for putting around town, and turns into "Mr. Hyde" at 4500 RPM. First time I experienced that when I cranked it on while accelerating on a freeway entrance ramp I got this "sh*t eating grin" that stayed with me for a week!

Anyone who wants to comment on my calendar idea, I started a new thread. See ya"ll there!

                    • More potential candidates for Calender photos?

Here's a few shots of that Green Bay theme bike I talked about in the Calender thread, the owner is Jeff Griffith! CUDOS!!!!

And I nominate this one for somewhere in the calender, just to show that XS11's DO WHEELIE!! That is unless someone has a shot of their's doing the same they would like to post?

                          Liberty,

Here are a few action shots that were taken during my run thru DEAL's GAP this fall! I didn't write up a ride report,
we attendees posted about our experiences in the Rally threads! Marty had some nice photos of him
and Sue on his FJR? scraping and sparking, but it's NOT an XS11! ! I had made some mods to mine this
last year so I wasn't scraping either my centerstand or my muffler..like I had done in the past.

I was surprised to find out how many "pro" photogs were on the Gap, I only saw a sign up for a guy named Killboy,
but Marty and Gary(66) clued me into the others, I ordered 5 separate CD's from 5 different photogs to get
some shots, but they weren't taken at the points where I was really getting some Xtreme angles!
But you can see I was leaning it around a bit, and NO....I don't scrape the saddlebags!!!

Yeah, it was quite cool=cold <32 degrees in the morning, and my gloves just weren't cutting it. So....along with having to go to Walmart and get some long johns and a sweatshirt, I used the cardboard and plastic wraps with some Duct Tape to make some home made "DUCT"hippohands! They worked fair, enough to keep my knuckles from freezing stiff, but they were a bit unsitely for the photos, but I would have rather had ugly photos than frostbit hands!
