  • 2005 Reno Rally

I was trying to think of a good West Coast place to have a rally that was central to the four directions, and I was thinking that Reno would be a pretty good location. I'd like some input on when is best for people, and how many think they could make it. I'd like to go all out and maybe get a banquet room at a Hotel/Casino with a wet bar for an evening. Then maybe a couple of days of riding the Eastern Sierra's. Street Vibrations is in late Sept., if we wanted to terrorize about 7000 harley riders.
Let me know what you guys can do. I've got a three here in town already, and Dhost in Santa Clara, I'm sure will be in.

    2005 Reno Rally

I know this doesn't really belong here, but this area gets the most action. I'm interested in hosting a rally here in Reno for the West Coast. If I get enough people I'd like to get a Banquet room at a Hotel/Casino and go all out. So if you guys could let me know who thinks they could make it and when, I can get an idea of what we can do. I don't know how long rallies usually last, but I was thinking a three day weekend might be sufficient with some rides around Lake Tahoe, and the Eastern Sierras.

      West Coast Rally

I just mapquested, using the Reno Hilton as a destination, and found out it's 561 miles from my house via superslabs all the way. That's a day in the saddle (and I rather do it in two and visit with friends on the way) each way.

What time of year would you be planning this rally? We have a vacation tentatively planned for the Tahoe area next spring, if it would coincide, it would be great, except that I'd have to rent a bike.

      Put me down as interested.

        Hey ralph,
It might not be worth it for a lot of people to just spend a day here, so I thought a three day rally sounds like a good medium. Any more than that, and people won't be able to spend that much time. So, if you can, take a couple extra travel days. I'll go with whatever works best for the most people.

I wasn't whining about spending one day. I was just figuring that, to have two or three days in the area, I'd have to leave travel time on either end, unless I'm already in the area on vacation.

You figure out when, and I'll see if I can make it either way (there is, of course, the SWMBO factor).

I'd, personally, like to try traveling north/south on secondary roads for the fun and sightseeing factor. Have to pull out the Atlas and see what the art of the possible is.

My neighbor, Wayne who also made it to the Bozeman rally, and I were planning a trip to Reno in 2005 to go to an air show. I don't know when this show is to take place, but if is concurrent with the rally, we will likely be there. About the casino/hotel thing, I would have discuss this with my traveling partner.

I'm in Modesto, just down the hill. With a date set I'm sure that I would show-up. I could probably get wife to come too on her Virago.

COUNT ME IN also - 'haven't been to Reno in a while.

...maybe I could call Pat Kelly and see if I could tag along - my shop is in his hometown and I live ~15 miles south...

I'd like to take some time off and Reno would be a GREAT place to do it; casinos are great for both gambling AND seeing some great shows. There's a LOT of my musical customers that play up there, so let me know...

I'm interested in making this rally but I won't be able to do anything till at least Aug. probably a little late ( and hot ) in the season for most people. Besides, I'll be riding from S.D. A few days would be good. I've got a brother in Reno and a Sister in Carson City I could see.

The air races, this year, are the week of Sept. 16th. Every year it's about the same time. That works for me. Right after that(this year-Sept. 22) is street vibrations. We could ride around and harass about 10,000 Harleys? Probably not too smart

I already mentioned that didn't I. And the # grew. Well that 7000 was from a few years ago. Anyway, I wanted to add that Hot August Nights happens the first week in Aug.(Major classic car gathering). And the rib cookoff in Sparks is Labor Day weekend. Lodging can be hard to find around these times, so if we do this, reservations need to be made ASAP.

I'm all for the labor day weekend thing. This gives me a few extra days to couple up with a two week vacation. this way I can have enough time to ride out and ride back without having to call in sick.. One ride that would be great is a stretch of U.S.395. I've been down this entire strech of hiway in an 18 wheeler but never on a bike. May get a little cold going north toward Susanville.
Rt 88 toward Markliville, Jackson, Lake Comanche, is nice, Around Lake Tahoe is pretty cool too. Just throwing a few ideas at you all.
Mabee we'll get lucky and have more then just a few bikes show up.

Reno is central to many destinations!

Count us in for the Reno rally this time next year! What a fabulous venue!

You are right Czekus21, US395 is absolutely beautiful coming from the North *or* the South. It follows through valleys and basically skirts the Sierras all the way.

We came up that way from Death Valley (Las Vegas) last year when most of the passes were still closed, cutting over Carson Pass on Hwy88 and dropping down into the San Juaquin Valley at Stockton. Another few miles after cutting off and we would have been in Reno!

Actually dragxs11, I just realized that you may be on that stretch this weekend putting our scooter through her post-rehab motions. Thanks for all of your efforts! You are truly a gentleman & a (XS11) scholar!
                          On the road!

tbear, show him this Pickup Coil Wire Fix or check it yourself, it's not difficult. And maybe think about making a request for help over in the tech forum.
