Dragxs11; I would like to partake in this adventure/rally, if I may make a suggestion, How about Tahoe for the meeting point/rally??I haven't been there in a few years, but I do recall it is quite beautiful there, and gambling there too.........I have never been to Reno, but I heard it wasn't that nice outside of the casino area, I could be wrong, but it doesn't matter, I will go wherever the group decides.............I just got my bike back today, and I am STOKED!!! Thanks to TopCat58, who is a lifesaver!!THANK YOU TC !!!!!!!!

While sitting in a chair, tilt your head back, and watch the wall behind you, instantly become a ceiling....
That would be a great suggestion Ripcord, if Tahoe were out in the middle of a remote area where it was the only attraction, but as you will see, there are *many* interesting rides in a decent day ride circle.
Take a close look at the map and check out all the places to visit. It would take two months to hit them all. Yosemite is just below Tahoe and it is mind-boggling. There is an active volcano up north (Mt. Lassen) that you can ride right over the top of.
For more info call 800-777-0369 and request a map and the new booklet that lists all details of the State Parks in California.
I know exactly how you feel about getting your bike back on the road. Thanks to DragXS11, who did the beefy repairs on my XS11LG, I'm back up on two wheels and lovin' it! This forum is a lifesaver.
We can meet in Tahoe if you guys want. There is a good campground near Zephyr Cove that I've stayed at, and the Lakeside Inn and Casino in southlake is a reasonable place to stay. They are within a few miles of eachother to accomidate either lodging prefference. I like to think of Reno as a lower-class imitation of Vegas. I don't think the city itself is all that great, but I like the mountains, as well as the desert. And it is easier to get to for those coming from the East.
So it sounds like we're looking at 2nd week in Sept.?

sounds good to me, thanks for the tech tips it helps. I consider my bike as a classic. If only it can stay together for a while. I am in for the run. Lets do it.
I'm packed and ready.
Wait a minute.......... I'm only 2 hours away .
Unlike my ride to Canada I'll be in 'play' mode (no fairing, bags, or trunk). Wife may come too on her Virago. Nice to have a paramedic along.

I'm saying Labor Day weekend because I think that will work best for the most people. I'm planning on making reservations for as many as necessary as we get closer. I will P.M. all of you when it's time to start making the reservations, and get you the info. for the Lakeside Inn in South Lake Tahoe. So we'll shoot for Sept. 3rd through the 5th.

If we're camping, there are KOAs near both Reno and Tahoe. Hotels and casinos are do-able, but not really in the Rally style, but I'm not a purist and appreciate a bed over a bag. We ought to avoid the street vibrations time so as to maximize availablity of sites and venues. The air races would be cool, though.
Pat, we should do the Hiway 49 loop through the Gold Country, either then are as a smaller CaliforniaXS ride beforehand. You'd love 49, but you should take up smoking. It will give you something to do while waiting for me to catch up.
Reno is a great destination for me, and I look forward to seeing you all again.

Just to update everyone, we're still on for Labor Day Weekend. Like I mentioned in the other SW Rally thread, I still have to check out some accomodation details, and map Sat. and Mon. routes. Right now I'm looking at the Days Inn in South Lake Tahoe but I want to make sure they can take a fair # of us. And there is a Carrows across the street where we can meet on Sat. morning for breakfast or Friday night for dinner. From then on we will have the freedom to eat meals wherever we prefer. Sound Good?

Okay, heres the deal. The Days Inn runs around $120 a night for that weekend. They, as of right now, have 12 rooms left. They told me to have people book rooms on www.Daysinn.com. This place is fairly modest. We could possibly save a few bucks in a roach motel, but I don't want anything happening to anyones bikes. Besides, I personally don't like spending vacations worrying about stuff like that. But it's up to you. Econolodge is right next door with plenty of rooms for about the same rates. So you can do that too.
