That's interesting. We where there end of April last year maybe something happened that changed that. The only down side to that place was that they didn't have any place to eat at the site. We had to ride on awful twisty roads up over a mountain and through the forest get food.

The same motorcycle group is staying there again this year.... it might be interesting to see if anything has changed from last year.

The honda group was from ST-Owners and it was their annual Blue Ridge gathering. A guy named Uncle Phil at ST-O could fill you in on the specifics. They moved to Moonshine Creek in Balsam NC 5 mins from Waynesville. The downside to this place is that its more camping than cabins. Their cabins are quite small but its in a great location. 1 Mile from the BRP.

I've stayed at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Camp many times. I've always been treated as a highly valued guest. The provide breakfast and dinner most of the time and Waynesville is a short enough ride. (a bit twisty, but not over a mountain)

I have heard some complaints, but never about the facilities or location.

            Tom,

If you went to the restaurant on the parkway, then you did go over the mountain. Waynesville is in the opposite direction.

Ok I found out what the "issues" were at Blue ridge MC Campground with the honda crowd. It seems on a fri evening a group of 30+ riders went out for dinner off the campgrounds property . The campground owner must have thought he would have more people for dinner than actually showed up...he was pissed so the next a.m. Saturday he refused to open for breakfast. Also it seems that this same group had an issue with the owner about dirty towels and he would not exchange for clean ones. Some people have said the owner's personality is not always accomodating his guests.so if you all decide to go there be sure you coordinate with the owner what your meal plans are.

I know a cheap motel in Cherokee, NC that would be glad to have us...owner is a rider and a freind and would give us a smokin' deal on rooms. Right at the end of the Blue ridge parkway in some of the best riding around. No campfires, no camping, have to get beer in the next town either way (Bryson City or Maggie Valley), whiskey in Maggie Valley. Lots to do, 100's of places to eat, and a casio if you were interested in that sort of thing. Just an idea, we have stayed at motels before.

Bruce and I stay here most every year.

I think you're talking about the Super 8 in Cherokee? Regardless it seems that you cant go wrong with anything in NC. Should we just take a vote on one place and try it or should someone check out these various places and report back then have a vote? Seems that would require alot of time to do. And since many of us are not local that also would preclude scoping out beforehand.

More info from the Honda guys on why the Blue ridge CG aint all that good.It seems every year the owner would get pissed about something and give the event organizer alot of grief over it.Last year he got in the organizer's face and was real ugly over the percieved ''injustice'' over the dinner situation. In all the yrs thhey went there(10) they never once ate any dinner there. seems the group didnt like his menu/cooking and didnt like sitting outside in the weather. They never told the owner they would eat there. Then he got pissed and refused to open for breakfast the next day. Ontop of that several campers in the group were cooking their own food and sharing it with everyone. He got in the organizer's face over that too. There are a few more details but suffice to say for the crowd they had which was actually about 60 people the owner didnt treat them all that well. The guy can run the place as he sees fit,but I wouldnt take my money there. And thats exactly what the honda group did..In addition these guys tell me they didnt really like his breakfasts either but would suck it up just to make the owner feel good. Just doesnt sound like the kind of place I'd want to spend my money at. Ok thats all I'm gonna say about this place.

The XS650 group has moved its April rally to the Iron Horse. I hope to be able to report on it, but April may be very late to make the decision. My wife called them today about a reservation and she seemed pleased by what she heard.

If we move it to a hotel, there are many options in Dahlonega, GA, if we want to keep the rally in Georgia. Dahlonega has many restaurants and watering holes.
