I'm pretty easy except for the above mentioned weekend. If everyone needs that weekend, I will just have to make it another time.
Around here any more, it seems like it's in the 40's one week, then 90's the next.... then vice versa. I don't mind the heat, or the cold... I'm out in it all the time any way (Unlike some other sensitive types on here.. ) I just would prefer not to ride in the rain. Cody... can you plan a weekend about 3 or 4 months from now that will have no rain for us? lol.

Tell ya what. If anyone is really interested post the dates...numerically (ie 9/04/06) that you CAN NOT be there. Then we'll try to schedule it that will allow most to make it.
9/27/06-10/01/06 I CAN'T make it. If that's the best dates for everyone else, I will try to make it another time.

Ok...September 22, 23, & 24 (Fri, Sat, Sun). I'll check into accomodations. I can tell you there are two motels I know of in Talihena. There is also a State Park north of town for those that would camp. Of course...barring some freak of nature... it will likely be in the 90's even in September...blahhhh!
However this is a very scenic area of Oklahoma for those of you having never been here.
I think we should tailor this thing like Wayne has TeXSive. Those that can be there Friday night...we'll meet at the local cafe and eat. Next morning we'll meet for breakfast too and then ride Saturday.
I'll try to get back here over the next few weeks to give a few more specifics.

LOL... then make it later in the fall. Scenery would be better too when the leaves change. Just have to worry more about the weather though. What's worse... riding in the heat, or in the rain?? I'm thinking twisties and "Mountains" with rain don't mix well. Would just have to slow down and enjoy the scenery more! : )

Ok, we're gonna make it to this thing whenever yall decide. Since there aren't many cabins available nearby we will tent camp. It would still be nice to have a firm date so we can plan some vacation time for it. Don't worry about us though, I understand this is a local event and you guys need to do it when you can and if anyone else shows up fine. After researching the area a little we have decided this will be a destination for us this fall if all goes well and we would really like to be among fellow xsives when we're there. We can be there mid September to early October. Texsive is Oct 6-8 so consider that. We will probably be on the Lounger intending to check the area out for future return trips and more interesting rides. See you there!
The last posted dates are firm. September 22, 23, & 24. Poprock and I are going for sure. If anyone else wants to show great.
I know for sure there are two motels and a State park right north of town with nice camping. The evenings in Mid September should be perfect. The days may get a little warm.
Talimena Ridge is very scenic and makes a nice place to vacation. The area is much like the Ozarks. Talihina is a quaint little "hill billy" village with several stores, a bank, service stations, cafe's etc.
I hope to post some sort of Website here in a couple weeks when Pop gets back from Oregon. I will enlist his help to plan the rides where we will be going each day.
I think Tod has some info he'll be posting here soon regarding accomodations for the Rally. If you're coming you might want to get reservations. Talihina is a small town with limited rooms. The State park has a quite a few camp sites. But a lot of bikers are there most every weekend from September through November. I'm guessing this rally will be a pretty busy time for the locals.
I just got together some info for you. I just called the 2 hotels listed in Talihina. One is the Lazy R Inn (918-567-2162) and their rates are 54.00 + Tx for a single. They are calling a single anything with just one bed. The other one is Kiamichi Inn (918-567-2243). Their rates are 38.41 for a single INCLUDING tax. They are completely open for the dates we have set for the nights of Sep 22 and 23rd. In the single rooms, they have 2 more King beds N/S and 1 for smoking, and 2 Queen size N/S. If 2 people want to buddy up in a room with 2 queens, the room is 49.39 inc tx, and they even have 1 room with 3 full size beds in it for 60.36 if someone wanted that.
They have 20 rooms in all. All have coffee makers but they only have 10 rooms with a microwave and fridge.... she suggested getting there early! : )
For the State Park, primitive sites are $8, and semi modern (Water and elect) are $16.
Tod
P.S. They said they only need a 24 hour notice if you need to cancel.... so might make reservations now while you can if you are even THINKING about going... can always cancel down the road if need be.

Here's the plan for day one. We'll meet at the local cafe for breakfast. It's right down on the main street in Talihina. Somewhere around 8 to 9 am Saturday. We'll leave shortly thereafter and ride to Mena, Ark. on the ridge road. For those that have never been there this thing is a "roller coaster". Up down and all around. Very scenic too.
We'll head back west to Heavner up by the lake to Wister then over to Robbers Cave State Park. From there back south into Talihina. Total for day one is 220 miles. This should take the better part of a day with all the photo stops and lunch and fuel.
Day 2 we should meet at same cafe. We'll abbreviate the ride Sunday since many we'll be needing to head home. Heading east out of Talihina we'll ride to Big Cear...turn south and go over Kiamichi mountain. We'll hang a right (west) at Octavia....over to Honobia then take the Indian Highway back up to 271 into Talihina. This path will be a route of high tortuosity as well. we'll be riding over two mountain areas. THIS IS VERY SCENIC AS WELL! We'll be crossing several rivers including the scenic Kiamichi. This route is approximately 105 miles. The ride Sunday should easily be over by noon so if you guys need to ride back to Minnesota ... or where ever you came from.
