Well Im off to Florida tomorrow... bummer..... wish I could stay and finish the bike.... Going to put the head together tonight and check clearances! that would be great if I didnt need anything done and I could slap it all together. But we all know how that works

Im going to add to mine..

John - steering head bearings on the bagger 80SG
    Jeremy - valves
Austin- Complete my bike.... im tired of it... timing, colortune, Drool at other bikes, and DRINK WATER!
Tod- Drink beer and point... and leave mine the hell alone for once!
Scott - Valve Shims, Tensioner leak, Clutch plates/springs, Sync
Ivan - drink with Tod, install turbo and nitrous with high compression pistons and SRBs off the space shuttle. After drinking, test ride. Or I could just mess with the colortune, since I have never seen one in action before.
Harry - Valve shims if needed. Colortune definitely. Help drink the beer.
    Lee - Fuse block transplant

I don't see any major teardowns this year, so if time will allow, I might install the crankshaft end sleeve and seal on the left side and be rid of that damn leak.
I'm not going to include this on the list, this is only if we have the other work done, and I have time to finish before the ride. But, the bagger should be done, and I can ride that...I guess.

Can I airlift my bike to you so you guys can get my rear axle out?

I'm just ranting here but it seems every year I find something seriously stuck on this bike. I haven't had to removed a rusted in axle since I moved away from the coast 22 years ago... I guess this is natures way to tell me I need a big brass hammer.

Actually, Geezer... I think it's nature's way of telling you that you need to get out and ride more...

As it turns out the axle was rusted into the spacer. When the PO had the rear tire changed the shop that did the work didn't apply any grease to the axle... I'm going to look at the axles on my parts bikes to see if I have a nicer one to slide back in there (well greased of course.)

Just ordered an 850 final drive off of Ebay. Though it would be nice to have for the almost 600 mile ride down there, I am thinking of bringing it along and having the experts assist me in installing it. What else will I need? I know there is a brass coupler of some sort that will need to be purchased. Anything else?

Harry, all you need is actually a splice connector for 1/2 inch copper pipe. It will need to be cut down to 5/8-11/16 inch. There is an Ace hardware just a few blocks from here where you can pick one up, or I can splurge and pick it up for you. The hardest part of the swap is getting the drive shaft back into the U joint yoke.
It might be wise to drain and flush the old oil from the new final drive so it doesn't leak out while in transit. Old gear oil can be very messy and smelly.

Man.... sitting here in florida is a bummer...

you would think that florida would be nice but its raining! SUCKS!!!

Wish I could be finishing up on the ol' bike....

My boss started his up for the first time yesterday and found some black oil coming out of the #1 2 pipe where it meets the hardley mufflers he has on. ALso dead on #2 cylinder! Probably doing a swap on the motor the day I get Back!

Well right now the frikkin Midnight Special is sitting in a parking lot at my buddies in Overland Park Kansas. I have ridden it almost daily for the last couple weeks with no problems since I thought I had the electrical problem solved. I rode it 370 miles today to the Cassoday bike rally. No problems. Went to come home from a friends, no spark. It was dark, raining, and my bike wouldn't even try. Acted just like it had a couple weeks ago. Not sure if the rain had something to do with it. And to make matters worse, I went to take the side cover off to check the main fuse, connections, etc. and broke the damn key off in the side cover lock. Luckily I have a spare but of course it was at home. Had to call SWMBO at 11:30 at night to have her get the kid out of bed and come pick my ass up. Well at least she was understanding. I am hoping that Russ can help a brother out tomorrow and get it to his place for repairs.
