Gettin' ready
Marty and I have been going back and forth on the routes for the last month. I was down there two weeks ago driving them and yesterday to check out some group dining.
Marty will post the routes. We're planning on 0900 departures. Rt 39 will be the initial leg on both days. The first 10 miles have some challenging curves if you're not prepared. Two more sets over mountain passes on saturday's route then a lot of benign riding.
Sunday will be more challenging. Rt 56 over the mountain consists of a lot of tight turns, we won't be running that too fast.
We've dinner Sat night a Salerno's and Sun night at Country Cookin' both a 6:30. I better figure a head count so I'm not under.
Chris graduates from VMI on May 16th so I will finalize plans then.Darrell

Son #2
I introduced, Collin, son #2 to riding over the weekend. This was the first time riding. He dropped my 79SF only once after losing his balance. He caught on pretty quick.
The next day he tried out my 78E.
He enjoyed it immensely.
Yesterday I took him back to VMI and we stopped in DMV to title my new ride and refresh his license. I asked about an MC learners. You need to take a written so he may apply for that tomorrow. This way we can practice legal. He will take the MSF course over the summer, his schedule permitting.Darrell

Darrell was nice to mention my assistance, however these are his routes, I just put them into the map software. He (and Chris) had to endure all that terrible, tedious driving to get us the great routes.
Saturday we are going to Marlinton and back, mostly on Rt 39. Lunch and gas stops are in Marlinton, and we have a stretch stop in the middle in each direction.
Sunday we are touring the countryside, sampling a little of everything, from cow paths to Blue Ridge Parkway to hill-climbing switchbacks. I did reroute one section that was dirt... We have several stops on this route for stretch and gas, and lunch will be at Peaks of Otter on the BRP.
On both days we will return to the motel first, then Darrell will lead us to supper. I didn't plot the supper spots. There are a couple of breakfast joints close to the motel, a waffle joint, a Burger King I think, so we should be good there. Also kickstands up at 9 AM both days. We have the gas stops spaced for Specials, no worries!
Here are two screen shots of the routes. Note that some of the numbers are just spots to force the software to go where Darrell said to go, some are actual stops. The screen shots are not really detailed enough to use as maps. If anyone has a place to store the files so others can download them, let me know, I have paper PDF files for each route, which come with text descriptions of the route. I also have Garmin GPS files. Otherwise, PM me with your email and I'll send the PDF files. If you have a later version of Microsoft Streets and Trips, or if you know what to do with a GPX file, I have those files also.
Saturday 156 miles
Sunday 171 miles
