I still like my truck and camper:

lodging, free on a quiet residential street,
      food, spagettio's, cheap
TV, toilet, stove, icebox for sodas.

I'm cheap and proud of it.

We're currently arguing about money here at home (SWMOB and I). She wants to get another loan for another DIY construction project here at home. I came-up with this bit of philosophy:

Be happy for what you have, not unhappy about what you don't.

Kinda like a quote I like, "A rich man isn't the one who has the most but who needs the least"

      I'll shut up now

It would be nice to keep all the folks together, so pick one of the motels as the one we chould all be in. We can part bikes together, meet for eats togeher, ride to the track together.

sounds like a good plan on trying to keep everybody together and most hotels will cut you a deal when booking alot of rooms for a few nights

So which one? If 6 of us pick one, and 6 pick another, soon we will be in all of them. So which one do you recommend? I like those motels that have the ground entrance, park the bike right outside the door. But, whatever, pick one.

I would pick one of the cheaper onesof the cheaper ones many because if Tracy and I make it to this one we'll be on the road for a whole weeks vaction and will need to watch money.

                    value inn

value inn would probly be the one. It is a ground level place park bt your door is the chepest out of the six and we can all meet there and take it from there? As i posted way earlier there is a motel 1 or so mile from the camp grounds. It is by no means the pretiest one but 50 a night. and super convienieant to all hang out if not riding or draging.

I spotted your mention of a "sleep room place" $50 per night and not much to look at 1 1/2 mile from the track. Got more details? Name, phone number? Is this a better choice than the Value Inn or do we have to travel to the Value Inn neighborhood anyway for food?

Either seems fine, one closer to the action, one closer to everything else. A 20 minute ride is no biggie.

Chevy, tell us which is better.

                        Siding with Ralph

I'm with Ralph on this one. Like Ralph, if Cindy and I attend this one we'll have to use a weeks vacation also. So we're looking for value and cheap rates too.
I may even bring camping gear also, but at this stage of the Rally it's still too early to tell.
Once we set some dates I'll start looking at the maps and try to determine how many days and which routes I'll need to take.
Then perhaps I can meet up with some other XSives heading West and we travel together --------- 'just an idea. Or if nothing else, I can head back East, after the Rally, with some other XSives. You know; saftey in numbers, fun with a group.
Also, like MartyA stated, I also sorta prefer the single story hotels where you can park the bike right out in front of your hotel room door.
                        Merry Christmas,
                        Ride Safe,

                          better?

well if it goes like most camping outings...do most of us drink and tell stories all night?? or do you uhum older farts hit the rack early?....lol camping and staying at hotel would be ok IF you were to have a few after days activities.(really the hotel is 1 mile straight road from camp ground) if your going to be drinking(spirits) you have one option stay at camp grounds (non negotiable) if you are just hanging out hey do what ya will. Me personally am camping. If i wasn't i'd take a chance at the not so pretty place up the road,it's close to all the other starting points. As far as a central meeting place goes that should be at the major cornner where all the hotels and gas and food places are(just because it is on the main hiway closest to the track camping and so on.) the 50 chep place is not huge i only counted about 20 units with four or five taken by hotel people (year round residents) the caretaker was less then friendly when i woke him up at like 10;30 am told him stories of up to 20 people coming and spending money didn't seem to rattle him just wanted to go back to sleep......so here we are at square one. Like stated i'd risk bed bugs to be close to the action beat the snot outta my bike sat. take a nice ride sunday head back pack up say seeya to some new friends? and hit it hey got 1/2 pack of smokes two hunks of gum and 114 miles to chicago.....hit it.

That not too pretty place does not sound like a customer oriented place.

This is a Saturday - Sunday affair, correct? Track day on Saturday, and a ride on Sunday? So that means most of us out-of-towners will travel on Friday to get there, return on Monday?

In some of the past rallys out this way here we have had a day of riding, then we eat and bring back some beer. Then we sorta gather in or near someone's room or a picnic spot or something like that, shoot the breeze for a few hours, drink a few beers, and then hit the sack. Nobody gets really silly about the beer, since we all have to ride the next day.

                            Here are my thoughts.

Since you will have some campers nearby the track, and some 'motellers' some short distance away, I suggest the motellers get rooms at the Value Inn, then on Saturday morning we find a place to eat, gas up, and ride to the track for a day of fun. The campers who do not cook or eat at their campsite could meet with the motellers Saturday morning for gas and breakfast. Then we head to the campground, pick up the campers, then go to the track.

After track day we can find a place to eat (or cookout at the campsite if that is arranged), get some beer, and meet at the camp ground for some visiting. Then the motellers can go back to the motel when they want. If we are having a Sunday ride, the same thing. Meet in the morning, ride all day, close out the day at the campground.

Monday those who are returning head home.

If it rains we can switch and all meet in a couple of adjacent rooms at the motel, or a big pavilion at the campground if it has one..

I am going to call the Value Inn after the holidays. I will mention that I am with a group and see if they can keep us together.

Comments? Is this something we can pick apart and make into a plan?

Marty, Let me know what you find out about the motel. I'd like to make this rally ,but I'm not riding 700+ miles to beat the snot out of my bike at the track I'm coming to meet new people and ride new roads and also get some new states. After a run like we do at xs east I perfer a bed to the ground and I've done that, Also after the rally Tracy and i might go farther west or north or I might just get lost again who knows what will happen!
