  • XSively Lost in Illinios Fall

OK with one great rally over it is now time to think about Fall. Here goes

    September 5th - 7th 2008

    5th meet and greet
    6th ride
    7th head home

After listening to Bob and Arlan talk about the great roads up wisconsin and minnisota I desided this would be a great route. Will be looking for help from those two great individuals on the route. HQ would be near Potosi Wi. With a clock wise route thru cassville wi., Prairie Du Chien wi.,Etizen mn., La crosse wi., middle ridge Wi., Westby wi., Readstown wi., lancaster wi., and back to potosi. Might have to alter the route a little not knowing if Potosi has a hotel. the route planned is 244.51 miles by mapquest.

here is the link if it works

Keep in mind this is a tenitive route. kinda hard to call it lost in Il when we never touch Il. This route was for the great people up noth of me to get involved. Potosi looks like there is no hotel that I can find online. Open to more options.

All the roads up there are good but since you asked. When you hit Cashton on Hwy 33 you are almost to Wildcat State Park (I’ve never seen the park but the roads around it are neat). I would suggest staying on 33 to the park, then right on county road F for a short distance, left on Hwy 131, then straight on county road P in Rockton, left on county road S through Bloomingdale, stay on S until you hit 131 again just north of Readstown. It will take twice as long as what you have now so keep that in mind. This is just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions. Arlan is the real expert for that area.

If this works you will find it here: http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...ildcatPlus.jpg

I think I'll have to do a test run,

Yes Bob, I think a test run will be in order once some options are worked out. A middle of the week trip as we talked about? I will look your route over closer but honestly as you know any route through that area is a good one.
I mentioned to Matt that maybe Prairie Du Chein or Dubuque would be a good home base. After going through Potosi I don't recall seeing any motels. If it was P.D. Chein it would allow more time for routes like you picked.

After talking to Arlan I altered the route a little. Bob I also added wildcat state park along the path. It now looks like 290 miles. A full days ride. With hq in dubuque because if hotel options. Here is the new map.

Would love to make one of these. I, unfortunately, wasn't able to make the spring ride, but I am definitely going to shoot for this one. If you can't find a suitable hotel, there are a some pretty campgrounds in that neck of the woods. Might be alot of fun too.

Here is a taste of the most northern part of the route at LaCrescent MN. Called Apple Blossom Drive and IMHO probably the most senic view along the Mississippi.

                    Up on two Wheels

                    Matt,
                    Count me in!
I took my first ride of the year Sunday. All of five miles.
My shoulder is healing up well, but was still killin me after my big expedition. Must be good therapy, no pain no gain.

Looks like a good route tho.

Been going over the ride route with cruizer and after he rode the route memorial weekend have a few changes.

                        first
starting point will be moved to Prairie Du Chein. We have more choices in motels to cut cost and arlan said he woul ride down and find us a good motel.

                        second
the route I had planned at 300 miles and over 7 hours was a little long. that was without any stops. new route is a bit shorter but added alot of great twisties. between arlan and bob they sure do know this area.

Keep in mind we still haven't locked anything all the way in and open to ideals and suggestions.

                          Matt

Check out these links. The Yamaha Triples Rally is up in that area. They have been holding rallies in Wisconsin for several years. If you have the time, going up to their rally may give you a lot of ideas. I hope to go on Friday but have to leave on Saturday to be in O’Neill, Nebraska, on Sunday for a reunion (not to mention the party in Norfolk, NE, on Saturday night).
