        Re: Rally info ?

        Hi Matt.

What is address of rally HQ? Does Sat ride leave from Super 8 in Peoria, near I-74?

I am off of work Friday, Sat & Sunday, so i should be able to get early start. Riding a red "other brand" bike.
It is a great big beautiful world out there

Man I need to check this forum more often!

Wow, I live in Peoria and didn't know about this rally til today! Unfortunately, my XJ is dead in the garage. I think I need a carb clinic. Anyone planning one for this weekend?

                    DAY 1

Arrived in East Peoria about 3 pm with Chip. Upon Arrival found out I had a message from Cool Tom who was already in town waiting for us. About 2 hours later Bob and Crusier pulled in. Only one rider to go and go figure he's riding his red *other brand* bike And we are waiting on him. Maybe if he would have rode his Xs he would have been here sooner. Brent pulls in about 6pm Which is pretty good time from Ga. 12 hours 735 miles not too bad for a harley. After an hour of hanging out we desided to get some grub. Logan's steakhouse was on the menue. We were all teasing Brent about him paying for supper. We had a great meal and some very interesting stories. My sister Cathy showed up and I presented here with a long sleeve Xs T-shirt for letting me stay at here house all these weekends. About 5 in all ( thats alot to put up with me!) Will be posting some pics after I get home.

Made it home. It was a wet and windy trip but interesting and a good test of gear. Did I say windy, after getting 40 mpg on one tank during the rally I got 25 mpg running 70-75 mph into the north wind today. An all time low for either of my XS's. I had a good time and I’ll be back for the fall rally, hopefully lots of rallies and lots of miles from now. Thanks Matt, and thanks Tom for helping Matt. Tom and Cruiser, the throttle lock info is in the mail. If anyone else is interested let me know. Who had the fuse box problem?

Back home safely at 4:15…..ok……. so I took a few alternate routes through southern Wisconsin cuz I hadn’t had enough riding yet. Yes Bob, County U from Potosi through Beetown is a winner. The bank clock said 46 degrees plus the wind was blowing, but when you have Hills, Valleys, and some twisties, the usual back roads we are familiar with, it’s a great diversion from the weather. Once I crossed the Mississippi to Lansing Iowa the sun came out. An omen? Sun out the rest of the way home and parked in the garage to 65 degrees. Nice!!!

Gas Mileage…I feel better now Bob. Shortly after I left you, my fuel light came on with 85 miles on the clock. Faulty gauge right? Should I keep going? Ya, gauge must be off. Now the worry sets in, what if?????? Naw, play it safe and pulled in at Manqueketa to fill up. 101 miles and 4 gallons……WHAT? I’m looking for a gas hose maybe leaking, but no sign of it and no odor. What the ???????
Could it be those 25mph headwinds? Must be, as next tank was back to 36mpg. Wow who would have guessed.

Thanks Bob for hooking up with me at Prairie Du Chien for the ride down. Ok, so we kinda got lost on our way to taking a wrong turn on Hwy P but it was fitting considering where we were headed.

Had an XSivly great time and thanks to Matt and Tom for everything you planned. The best part is meeting and putting the faces to the names.

                            Home again

Made it home around 8. about 15 minutes quicker than trip there. I went a slightly shorter way and no work day rush hour.

I encountered some strong gusty crosswinds, Some rain too. Most of the trip was dry after I got out of IL

                            No mechanical issues this trip.

Maybe next rally stay longer. See more.

                              Rally

I want to thank all you guys for this rally, this was my first rally. I REALLY enjoyed it. Was nice to put faces to names. My gas mileage was 39.9 in Rushville, 36.5 in Hannibal, and 41.5 in Astoria. We sure put that Nija and XS650 down though. The boy on the XS650 said his dad had a XS1100 at home. But i didn't get to tell him to get on this site. I will ride over there some time and see if i can catch him and maybe get to see his dads bike. My daughter wanted to know if you enjoyed your breakfast? I told her next year she had to go with us even if she does ride a HD.
I hope I did alright on the ride as this was my first group ride. At least I didn't get us lost while I was leading this year. That seat on my XJ was VERY comfortable. Besides the short trip to East Peoria that was the first ride test on it. Now have to fine tune it and paint the frame work for it, then put on the buddy seat. And I want to THANK all of you for stopping at my house and checking out my bikes. Brent next time bring the filter so we can change your oil.
                              Thanks Tom

                                Sorry I missed it

Wow, sounds like a fun weekend! I was hoping to get some time to run over to East Peoria and meet everyone, but SWMBO had other plans! And, since it was Mother's Day weekend, we had family obligations. I'll have to keep watching this forum more closely, so I don't miss the next rally.

P.S. If anyone's gonna be in Peoria again and wants to put on a carb clinic, please let me know! My XJ is down and the weather is turning nice again!
