so, checked every connection in the TC with a dental pick. Didnt find anything loose, but there were a few thin solders, all have been re-soldered well now. no change in condition.
Is here anything on the other side of the board I need to check?79' XS1100SF "Eleven Special" - Black/Gold

Hey there Osmosis..............If the problem turns out to be the TCI, let me know, and I'll give you a good one that was incorrectly on my 81 Venturer, don't have any use for a 2H7. Just email me at brperson@msn.com.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

replaced wires from the pickup coils to the junction where they meet with the larger wire, resistance is now at 1,4 bank=723 ohm, and 2,3 bank=724 ohms. The wires showed a little bit of greenish white dust when stripped at some of the bends, but the improvement in the resitance is negligible, considering it was at ~730 before (less variation though). No change in problem condition, all other troubleshooting results are the same as before also...suspect=TCI
Motoman... I sent you an email.79' XS1100SF "Eleven Special" - Black/Gold

Hey Osmo,
Don't throw your old one away IF you do get MotoMan's, cause Randy can FIX THEM, just send your bad one to him, and he'll fix it and get it back to you, and then you'll have a SPARE!!

Yeah, I have been meaning to send him an email, but when you visit his site, all of the email links for him try to open the computer's default email client, before it gives me his actual adress, (mine at home isn't set up) and I havent had the time to try at work.
I have been waiting for motoman to get back to me, I have sent a few emails, but with the weather gettin nice, I am sure has been harder to get in front of the computer when there is riding to do.
Randy, would you be up to the task of trying to revive a troubled TCI?
(this post was written at work over a period of as few hours)
I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!! I was sitting in a meeting, daydreaming about riding, During the last ride (50 miles at night) I ran into a 10 minute torrential rainshower. I kept riding through, it was clear and starry all around me, but under a big cloud. At one point it was raining so hard I couldn't go faster than 20mph. Could moisture have gotten into the TCI?
It ran perfect during that entire ride, then crapped out the next am. When I had the TC unit off, I noticed the plug/cap on the bottom was on, but barely, and was not "sealing"the hole.
I used to work for the EPA, testing streams and ponds for illegal dumping, and we had to use a PDA to hook up to these sensors in the field and download the data that they recorded. Sometimes the PDA would get dropped in the drink and crap out. We would put it in a glassware drying oven @ 60 degrees C to dry it out, it always came back from the dead.
I wonder if I could do the same for the TCI.79' XS1100SF "Eleven Special" - Black/Gold

Unlikely Osmosis.................Emailed you last nite, couple times. Called the number you gave me on my cell, and no ring or anything on other end. Got the email from you with the telephone number, and that's all I've gotten so far. Just now left a message on your phone, so give me a call on my cell anytime so's you can eliminate one way or another the TCI being the problem........Brant.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

TWO WEEKS, THAT'S INSANE... Let Me Speak To Your Manager!
Just Kidding, I did get in touch with moto, when I get his TCI in the mail, I will send this one out to you. That way at least I can still play with the bike this weekend. Keep it as long as you need. Thanks for the offer!
So another technical question, I went ahead and spliced the wires at the pickup coils, just to eliminate the chance of future failure, (plus during the troubleshooting I got pretty rough with them, hoping to get the problem to occur.) The question: is the pickup coil wire a directional circuit, or a simple circuit. The reason I ask is because I think I soldered the front pick up coil's wires backwards. It seems like the engine is mistimed, and doesnt want to start, when I switch the top 2 wire around in the 4 wire plug, it start easier, and idles smoother. (the odd thing is that these are the dead cylinders, 1,4 right?)
I will try to get the bike polished this weekend and post some pics, if I can figure out how.79' XS1100SF "Eleven Special" - Black/Gold

thanks for the info Randy, BTW... could you tell me which wire is positive, (I assume the wires with the red stripes are +), and that the upper set of wires in the 4 wire plug go to the "front"PU coil, and the bottom to the "back" one. Each coil pickup has a blue wire, I assume that is the ground, correct?
