    Upgrading coils

The output from my coils seems weak (79 1100SF). If I'm going to replace them I may as well get something that makes nice big sparks. What do you recommend?

I've got a 79SF myself and although the coils are STILL doing their job? ( •_•)

If I personally wanted to get coils that burned away regular spark plugs cuz of that HOT spark I wanted-

Keyword search is - "HIGH-OUTPUT IGNITION COIL KITS" if you want the Easy button method with all parts included. (^_^)

OR you can go Ala Carte to order all the individual parts you see fit to install. ( ๑‾̀◡‾́)σ"

    Personally? (O_o)

IF and when I have to replace my own ignition coils I'll install the "STANDARD-OUTPUT IGNITION COILS" available from the same vendor. (^-^)_日

Genuine Dynatek DC1-1 is what many of us use. Nice super hot spark.

I put the coil kit on my bike about 7 years ago. I’m still happy. The job took very little time doing it in the driveway.

Also, your (and mine as well) OEM coils WILL have a weak/wimpy spark if you are using a resistive spark plug. (╯•﹏•╰)

Recommended spark plug per the repair manual is a NGK BP-6ES or Champion N-8Y which are NON-resistor plugs which have Zero resistance. (•‿•)

Sadly... both of these non-resistive plugs are NLA or REALLY hard to find. (●´⌓`●)

If you have spark plugs installed that ARE resistive (EG: NGK BPR-6ES) then wimpy/weak spark is what you get. ( 。-_-。)

An option available- Replace the OEM spark plug CAPS with available "resistive" aftermarket, remove the resistor, replace it with a section of copper, and then run the whatever available resistor spark plugs the market is throwing at you/us. (´◡`)

Spark is then the best it CAN be with the OEM coils. (;☉_☉)

          Options and opinions? (O_o)

          We got'em. (¬‿¬)

I replaced the caps with the NON_RESISTOR Caps from NGK.As for the coils, buy the 6 Ohm coils and bypass the ballast resistor. For spark plugs I use the iridium NGK plugs, BP6EIX if I remember correctly. I know they were the same plugs Honda used on some of the Accords and Civics.

DiverRay... You found NON_RESISTOR caps from NGK?! (O_o)

PLEASE tell me they are like the LB05F (short 90 degree for the outer cylinders) and the XB05F (Long 102 degree for the inner cylinders) AND they are for the OEM 7mm copper-core plug wires.. (✦ ‿ ✦)

I'd be on that like White on RICE cuz I'm on my last box of Non-resistor Champion spark plugs. (•﹏•)

Dyna coils, ballast resistor jumper, new wires with no resistor caps.

I buy my spark plugs straight off the shelf from a motor spares dealer, they are the BP-6ES. I don't buy them from Amazon or eBay or even a motorcycle shop. The are about £12 for 4. I have checked them and they are legit. Have you tried the motor spares dealers.in your area?

In the U.S., we don't have that shop. I buy my plugs from the local branch of a big name auto parts store, Napa. The Iridium plugs are MUCH more expensive than the OEM, but last a lot longer. I do not buy ANYTHING from amazon, and only buy things I can't get local from Ebay.

                      Where I am? (_Oo)

No shops carry the NGK BP-6ES or the Champion N-8Y Non-resistor spark plugs the Yammy engineers called for... (ノ_<。)

The parts counter person(s) here WILL however, try to sell me any and all "similar" RESISTOR plugs that show in their cross reference guides. (-‸ ლ)

They will state that the resistor just does NOT matter. They will DIE on that particular hill so I just don't bother to disagree with them in the store. (´_`)

Fortunately for me and anyone else who wants to avoid weak/wimpy spark due to OEM resistive caps AND the additional/inadvisable resistor plugs? (ノ﹏ヽ)

It's one heat range hotter than the Champion N-8Y, totally NON-Resistor, relatively cheap, and most importantly... still AVAILABLE. (°◡°♡)

I mean... here's what AI sez bout it iff you're gonna give AI any credit at ALL.....

                      AI Overview-

The primary difference between Champion N8Y and N9Y spark plugs is their heat range:
N8Y is a colder plug, while N9Y is hotter. N8Y is better suited for higher-speed/load conditions, while N9Y works better for normal driving. Both feature a 14mm thread and a projected core nose, commonly replacing NGK BP6ES.

It's what I'm running for my "normal" drives which lately have been just to run to Dairy Queen and get soft serve Ice cream. ( ◜◡‾)
