Serial numbers for the 1978 E start with "2H8" .... Is that correct? Never heard of that and I always wondered about this 2H8...XS1100 3X0 '82 restomod, 2H9 '78 chain drive racer, 3H3 '79 customized.

Yamaha lists 2H8 as "Europe" and "Oceania" (mainly Australia & New Zealand but other islands in the south pacific). If you want to take a deep dive, check out one of the Kiwi or Aussie XS11 sites. Though a smaller market, they're pretty hard core about this bike and may have VIN numbers in sale notices.
