Those are the originals, the pictures where the pad isn't in the bracket are the ones with the new shims. That picture is a bit deceptive, but that's actually a feature of the shims. The sit flush but have a chamfered shoulder. You can make it out here: https://www.mikesxs.net/yamaha-xs650...0/XS1100E/1978

As far as I can tell, the new and old shims are nearly identical except being too wide for the pads. I took measurements all over with my calipers (digital measuring tool, not brakes) and that's the only angle they're different in.

Filing in these area lightly helped in the installation of the rear pads. They should be snug but they can still move back and forth under pressure.

I see that now, the triangular corner. Sorry for the confusion.

I purchased the exact set of rotors from NICHE for the front of my '79 F and once I mounted my new calipers the rivets that attach the braking surface to the rotor hub jammed up on the inboard brake pads. There was an overlap of at least 1/2" on each inboard pad. I tried everything I could think of short of grinding down the rivets to make these rotors clear the brake pads without any luck. I have no idea what went wrong, but they clearly did not fit my '79 F. Any thoughts ? This is directly from Amazon: Compatible with OEM Part Numbers Yamaha 2H7-25831-00-00, 5G9-25831-10-00, 5G2-25831-10-00 Compatible with Yamaha 1978-1980 XS1100, 1980-1981 XS1100L, 1978-1981 SR500, 1981-1983 XJ550R, 1980-1983 XJ650, 1981 XJ650L, 1982-1983 XJ750, 1981-1983 XJ750R Now either I am a complete idiot or they sold me the wrong rotors packaged as the correct ones, but I can guarantee you these did not fit at all. U shipped them back for a full refund. If any of you know where I can purchase a set of a direct fit upgraded set of front rotors for my '79 F please hook me up. Thanks

I did find a set of EBC rotors that are supposed to be an exact fit for my '79 F from Dennis Kirk. Anyone have any luck with these? Thanks.

Fo45, while I did not have fitment issues, I did find that they warped after about 5 thousand miles but worked good up to that point. I ended up installing EBC units which are much higher quality rotors. VDM2024 is the correct part number.

I did mention the filing of the pad. Once you do that, they fit fine. But I would not recommend them because they warp to easily.

Yeah you do get what you pay for, especially with NICHE, so lesson learned. I wasn't willing to file down the inboard pads just to make the rotors fit, so I sent them back. I will pick up a set of EBC rotors and hopefully I will have better luck. Thanks again brother!
