no blinkers on my 1979 xs1100f

hello everyone, well I got my carbs cleaned and new shims the bike runs great but my blinkers stopped working. they don't light up at all. the fuse is good. it was real tight getting the valve cover off to put the shims in, i had to take the fairing and all the braces off so i thought i might have pulled a wire apart around the head light or around the coils but i can't find the problem. thanks

I put a two prong flasher no change. the flasher only has one hot wire is that the way it should be? my wiring set up is just like yours. the blinkers worked great before I worked on bike.

The brown wire is the hot wire, the brown/white runs to the switch. With the key on, put the switch in either the left or right position. With the flasher removed, jump the brn and brn/wht wires at the plug. The left or right signals should light up but not flash. If they light up, your problem is the flasher, if they don't light up, the problem lies elsewhere in the wiring or the switch.

Whenever I pull my fairing off there's a nest of wires that used to be housed in the headlight bucket that are now kept inside some sort of vinyl bag. It's not difficult to jostle that bag around while removing and reinstalling the fairing, I'd be looking there for a disconnected pair of wires.

your wright those wires are a mess. i found three female wires that are loose two are hot, and three or four male loose wires none are hot, ive hooked them up every way but nothing changes.

howdy Roger,,,,same thing happened to me,,,,I had a broken brown wire at the connection coming from the left handlebar switch at the plug which is under the gas tank,,,,lift the tank up and there is two connections,,,try a 12 volt test light on the brown wire and brown with stripe wire with the key on for power,,,,also these bikes usually have to be running to get enough juice to get the signal flasher to work,,,many have replaced with a electronic flasher which requires way less load and works better...keep us informed,,,,a test light will be your friend along with a electronic flasher................Mike in San Diego and Pa.

the connecter with a green wire and a brn and white wire the brn is hot the green is not

I read that blue is for your running lights so i plugged one of the female hot wires to a blue male wire that goes to the pigtail of the fairing and with the switch on ive got running lights on the front.I have one gray male wire and one red one none are hot. I have two more blue female wires and one is hot and one is not. ive tried plugging them different ways but nothing works.

Do you have a good ground for the fairing? If the current can't return to the battery, no current. I put a "new" ground wire on all the fairings I've used. Goes from the fairing ground wire direct to a bolt on the front of the frame.

Some where in here is a thread on “fixing” the blinker can thing. I had to do it to mine years ago, but yours sounds like a loose wire somewhere.

where did you get that replacement fuse block. Mines failing. Little ears breaking off the hold the fuses. Jeff

I don't see a wire connected to my fairing, when i unplug the wiring connection i can pull the fairing off.
