    Hey beech i got that speedo in my van. i like it cept it doesn't have a light for night vission. I've had it up to 90mph in my van.

      Hey Ben,
      The fastest XS11 I've ever seen, or should I say the quickest, belongs to a lady in New Hampshire that has a 78 Standard. The bike is all red & chrome, with a nice chrome engine..... and matching nitros tanks on the back !!!!

      Mine's not exactly a "dog", but it does have 166,000 miles on it now.

      Then there's who's the fastest in the corners ????

      Those of us going to the Southeast rally for the 3rd year, know there's alot of "twisties" and you oughta see Top Cat ride "Godzilla" with his 6 inch over front end !!! So maybe you'd consider joining us October 15th, 16th, & 17th in Suchs GA.

      Hope to see you there to see some of the fastest bikes in the East !!!!

          My full dressed standard, stock, whipped a Honda valkryie, it had six pipes, that looked like headers on it. I saw the guy a couple days later at a red cross fund raiser, he couldn't believe my bike out ran him, he said he was going to have a mechanic look at it, and wanted to know if I had changed anything on my bike to make it so fast. That felt great, Later 'Dog

            Where are you located? I see it says "close to Syracuse,NY" how close ... and in which direction ???

                the other night when i was working on my bike with a friend we took it for a test bag. he was riding a venture royal an me on my 78 xs 1100 E. From a rolling start in first we mashed the throttles his bike jumpped ahead I was rolling passed him while shifting from 1st to 2nd and just after i made the 4th to 5th shift at redline I was doing 120MPH and he was a couple of hundred yards behind. All I know is that with me only weighing 140lbs the bike goes like a raped ape. at 120MPH it was still pulling incredably hard but then again at that speed gravity wasn't doing much to hold my butt on the seat. the top speed of about 140MPH would just be a matter of placing lead bricks in my pants and holding the throttle longer.

                  I may have to wait until next spring, but when I get my 79sf tuned up and the speedo working correctly, and a thorough check of components and decent rubber, I'll open her up. I would expect no less than 120-130 on this one, though I may not dare try that.

                    I have a 140 MPH speedo off an XS750 that I will try on my MN Special (will check front wheel sizes tomorrow). Be nice to know how fast I'm going in 3rd gear and beyond .

                      All Japanese bikes use the same speedo drive ratio. That aside, The XS750 has the same size front tire as the XS11.

                        125mph

                        I can get my '79SF up to 125mph on the clock on the 18-lane wide freeways down in Orange County. The rest of the roads here are too curvy or congested to do more than about 95-100mph. Not too bad for a $500 bike with over 84k on the clock. I, too, enjoy knocking the "crotch rockets" down a peg or two. They certainly don't expect a stock, 26yo road bike to be able to outrun their pride & joy.

                        When I got the bike, it would barely break 55mph, and there was thick black smoke coming out of the tailpipe. After a trip to the local Yamaha dealer (my dealer LOVES the old XSs) for a tank boil-out, carb cleaning & oil change (8 quarts of gas/oil in the case), I ACCIDENTALLY pulled a wheelie on my very first *real* ride on the XS11. This was scary as hell, as I was on a jam-packed side street during friday rush-hour traffic in L.A. Luckily, I got it under control and am really careful now about watching the RPM when shifting from 1st to 2nd.

                        At the nightclub I work at, there are about 8 people (one is a lady) who ride their Harleys every day. When I got the XS, they used to give me flak for parking my "Motorbike" by the "Motorcycles." That is, until we all went out riding one day. Now they know that my XS is far superior to their $20k vibrators.

                          Nice post, Hollywood.

                          My 80g is tired. Since I got the 79sf and put a 4-1 on it, I haven't really ridden the 80g. My carbs on the 79 are still not right. If I can get the carbs all set up and a few other things, I would hope to have similar performance. It's hard (for me) to get 'em to run right at ~7,000ft elevation....

                            On a chainsaw blocked fueltank airbreathers play havoc with the tune. Sometimes rich sometimes lean and no power. Don't see why motorbikes are any different. Slightly blocked is enough. Chainsaws run upside down do motorbikes? No airholes in jets on the saw. Open the gaslid should be no 'gasp'. backwards.

                              I have the fastest XS because it goes as fast as I want to go! I wish it did wheelies a bit easier, but I am working on that.

                                denny my xs with the 'can' mod is MUCH snappier. waiting to get a few things fixed so i can test out the top end. mainly need some new rubber.
