For many yrs I have used 10w40 Dino..When that became unavailable i went with the 20w50 Dino oil..Super Tech from Wally world..This in my XS and XJ1100s...and in my XS650 as well...
MY ST1100 on the other hand has been taking Shell Rotella T6..The same oils used in diesel engines...My oil and filter change interval is 12K miles...On the XS1100s i would go 5000 miles before changing...and my XS650 is 1500 miles..or once a year whichever happens first...

I have used Amsoil in my XS11. It was just fine. Expensive, but just fine.

Amsoil can market it to V-Twin owners all they want....... it's just 20W-40, wet clutch compatible, synthetic oil to me.

Amsoil has a good oil, and hopefully more 20w40 oils keep showing up.

BTW, ZRX carbs have the same spacing as the XS11... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35462

Mobil has 20W-40 dino, wet clutch compatible, oil released. Not my flavor and not too much test data available but it's getting back out into the market.
