MNS carbs

Do I need to be careful with the black MNS carbs in the dip bucket or is the black tough enough to take it?

Never done an actual set of MNS carbs but I'm about to.

I would use an ultrasonic cleaner with pinesol rather than a dip bucket. I don't think the black will stay on in the solvent, plus you will be doing all the rubber seals as well.

I dipped my XJ 750 Midnight Maxim carbs in straight Pine-Sol for three days and upon removal, the paint, in places, peeled off so you may not want to soak 'em that long

MNS Carbs

I did three sets of these Greg and used an aluminum safe cleaner in my ultrasonic Branson 8510. The product I used was "Crystal" but really its a Branson knock off. You can't ship chemicals across the border without doing a truck load of paperwork so this was the Canadian version. You can go to the branson web and order the real stuff. I gallon jug lasts forever because you only put 1 cup per gallon of water and can reuse it several times. Doesn't hurt the paint or the aluminum and cleans electrical contacts to like new condition. Won't hurt the butterfly shaft seals at all.
Just pull your components out of the tank. Rinse in water and blow dry.

Mack, which of these is like the knock off you used? Would like to soak my LG carbs also.

I believe the Crystal we have up here conforms to the MC-1 standard. It's safe on everything including butter fly shaft seals. makes the copper contacts in the handlebar controls look brand new. I put my transmission gear shafts in it to clean out the oil ports and look for defects in the gears themselves before assembly.

I'd contacted Branson directly and tried to place an order and they were the ones who told me about the shipping restrictions and gave me their Canadian affiliate. When I was restoring "Blank Slates" SF, he was astonished at how well it worked. He went out and bought a Branson of his own and uses it on everything around his place. Cleaning everything from old tools to the chrome on his stove. LOL
