Ok not sure WTF happened...........did the planets align..........should I go buy a lottery ticket.........hell maybe it was just the beer anyway played with this thing all day messing with wires and cleaning connections and greasing connections.......oh and also pulled the carbs off again and ran through them one more time.......getting good at it now.......bench sync and put it back together.......hooked up my 4 gauge vacuum set up to sync it and it fired right up a little adjusting on the idle and to be honest only carbs 1 and 2 needed a little tweak.......3 and 4 were good. Bike runs great and doesn't have any issues in the garage......will get it out tomorrow and see what happens not holding my breath

Just woke up 6:30 here and will get it out in a few.
As for the pilots they are the factory 42.5s and have not trimmed the wires ? Whats entailed in that one.
Plugs were new.79 SF

Convert the petcocks? Octi has been removed by PO so all that I have is plugs on the prime side and lines running off the other side.79 SF

Ok got it out for a run around the block as I still don't feel comfortable getting it out on the street......has a stumble at about 2K but once past there it runs like a raped ape. Anything over 3K and its smooth as can be.
Still has a little pop in the exhaust so there is still some tweaking to be done on the carbs.79 SF

I fought one a wile back that WOULD NOT START below 40 - 50 degrees. Those pick ups were reading LOW resistance. In the 650 ohm range. If I put a space heater next to the left engine cover and let it warm up, the resistance would increase and it would fire right up.
It almost took me on that short drive to crazy trying to figure that one out.
Swapped out the pick ups with some that ohmed out correctly and never had another issue.Greg

If you continue to have little hesitations here and there, replace the butterfly shaft seals in the carbs if you haven't already. That was the missing link to getting mine free and clear after much trial and tribulation81 Special

I'm assuming your plugs are fresh and you've trimmed the plug wires and made certain they are getting good contact.
Factory was 137.5 main and 43.5 pilot but wondering if I should bump the pilot up one size ?

Thanks everyone also for the help! I think that this is going to be an enjoyable adventure with this project. Almost through in the towel as I only paid 400 for it and bought maybe 150 in parts to get to this point. Time well we al know we cant keep track of that I think that is why I bought the thing I like to tinker on things........almost is therapy to me.......
Anyway have a few more questions and figured I would just keep them here. So I want to throw a little money at it as its a keeper. First off new coils as I did chop the plug wires to get to fresh and a couple are right there in length so......what do people recommend? Saw the Dynas and also accel
New shoes are on the way. I have used the Shinko brand before so just went with the 712s for a price point.
Also cables who recommends what brand and where ? I am going to be swapping on some other bars as I am just not a fan of the factory ones. I may need to shorten them up a little but I know the clutch cable needs replacing....
Looking at SS lines and probably just go to a local speed shop and have some custom ones made. Unless there is a better option out there ?79 SF

[QUOTE=spectra;502583]Ok this makes me wonder on the pilot jets.....how can one tell what brand of pilot jet? I am pretty sure they are the mikuni ones as I dug them out of a parts pile that came with the bike. One of the POs swapped jets like candy on this thing.......I have so many jets and extra carb parts its nuts I would like to just order some genuine mikuni stuff and be done with it but don't want to get the wrong stuff.

Look in this thread. Post #4 shows the genuine Mikuni markings. http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44730
I can help you get the right stuff from Jets-R-Us if you want new. Pricey though.Greg
