I have no idea why all of a sudden. One common denominator: It was wet out when it started happening. I have a blade type fuse holder!

Bulbs are correct? I would check for a wire with worn insulation between the fuse and the bulbs. Check the feed-through at the stalks near the fender and at the front end.Skids (Sid Hansen)

I'm gonna check that now. I'm on my 5th try figuring it out / fuse at the moment. Just got back from a ride, and blew two of them..despite my efforts. I cleaned the HELL out of EVERYTHING. i'm (ONCE AGAIN) IRATE with this thing. Expletives galore at my apartment.80' XS1100 SG "Dottie"

One thing I should mention: it will just blow out while riding. I'll use my signal, turn it off, then the next time i try to use it, NOTHING.

Have you checked the switch itself for loose wires?
The solder work sometimes wasn't the greatest and the switch is old. Be very careful when you open the switch or if there weren't any loose wires when you opened it there will be before you close it.-- Scott

I also just put in a mike's xs signal assembly. wired it up correctly, and everything about a month ago. I THINK it may be the crimp in the right turn signal wire to the actual light...that makes the most sense. put a whole new assembly on, and it was FINE until the wet roads. will report back!80' XS1100 SG "Dottie"

well, just cleaned up the rear turn signal wire...still blows out after...about a minute and a half of riding. By the way, it'll just blow when i'm riding...not even using the signal. I can feel it. the bike just slows down, and then it doesn't work. I cannot figure this out for the life of me.80' XS1100 SG "Dottie"

You need to check the function of the voltage regulator at say 3500 rpms. It could be allowing overvoltage and over amping. ALTHOUGH I can't see it blowing the turn signal circuit without using the turn signals.Skids (Sid Hansen)

Automatic Breaker
A great way to remove frustration when hunting a short circuit is to use an automatic reset breaker in place of the fuse as a tool. Can be had in 10-30 amp ratings. When the short occurs, breaker trips. When it cools down, it resets. Hunt for the short while the tripping occurs. When found, reinstall the correct fuse.
Buy them in any parts store.1981 XS1100H Venturer

here's the thing...
I had ZERO problems with any fuses blowing until recently. the fuse i'm posting about blew once in traffic...but that was it. nothing like that happened for MONTHS. then, once again, I ride home from work when it's wet out...a NEW problem. I'm going to look into the instrument cluster, because it DEFINITELY isn't the reg / rec...switched that out, and it STILL blew within 3 minutes of riding. SOOOOO PISSED RIGHT NOW....80' XS1100 SG "Dottie"
