Let me see if I can get this right: (Many of the clearances are right on the border of which pad to install, and most of you are saying go with the bigger clearance, in which case, I'd need a 280, a 275 and a bunch of 270s instead)

    Intake:
    #1 - 290: clearance .10mm NEED 280 have one
    #2 - 285: clearance .06mm NEED 275 (couldn't read stamp on actual shim...borrowed a 285 from the exhaust to measure)
    #3 - 285: clearance .10mm NEED 275
    #4 - 280: clearance .14mm NEED 275

    Exhaust:
    #1 - 285: clearance .15mm NEED 275
    #2 - 285: clearance .20mm NEED 275
    #3 - 290: clearance .20mm NEED 285 have one
    #4 - 290: clearance .18mm NEED 285 have one

Anyone have a bunch of 275s they'd be willing to sell?

I'm using the conversion chart on pages 2-6 and 2-7 of the Yamaha manual. http://ringler.us/xs1100/XS1100H-SH-...ice_Manual.pdf

      shims

I have a couple 275's a couple 270's . I'd trade for any smaller sizes than that if you have them. But I already have too many 290's, 295's and 300's.

I'm going to shim my LH tomorrow or the next day, I'll see what I have left over and pm you. I should be able to help you out with at least a couple of the ones you need.

Just checked my box. Sorry but I only have 1 270. Everything else is 260 down or 285 up.

Unfortunately, I don't have any spares with which to trade, so I would need to buy them straight up. (unless you need the big boys for a brand new bike)

Do my new shims seem accurate based on the old ones and the measurements?

Would Andreas have some? I'll PM him.

I think Kawasaki had models with similar diameter shims if you are having trouble finding them. Take a shim with you to compare diameters...

You need the 29mm shims for our bikes, here is a source for them...

Correct Sid, Kawasaki uses same diameter shim.

                    Cheap valve compressor tool.

This is something I just found, although it comes late for you!

I checked with the local shop for shims and they want $8 a piece for them. With needing 5 shims, $40 seems a bit ridiculous as that's half a shim kit. I'm hoping someone can hook me up on here for a bit less.

I have two 275's that I can send you, no charge, If you want to send me a couple of whatever sizes you have left over, that's cool. if not no problem, just pay it forward someday. Hopefully someone else here can help you out with a couple of more. PM me with your address.

I've been trading shims with some other folks too and was thinking about setting up a shim exchange system of some sort but I'm not sure how that would work out, i think it has been attempted by a few others.

                            Thanks gents!

I PM'd both of you. I could probably use 270s for a couple of those gaps as well. Most of my measurements are on the borders of their ranges.

Just two more! I have the gaskets ready to go and just need these to finish up the valves before reassembling and praying for my dear life. Got my first kid coming soon so I won't have time to mess with it after that. It's now or...literally, never.
