The tubes with less # of air bleed holes (richer) go in the center 2 carbs, #'s 2+3. This is done to help keep the temperature cooler on the 2 inboard cylinders.

Well , I managed to clean the carbs...not without issues...didn't pay attention to the emulsion tubes and I lost the little clip/washer that
holds the clutch lever to the rod...Once I locate a replacement left side
drain plug...put the carbs on...try to fire it and do a compression test...
if I get a good reading...I may try to locate a better set of carbs...What
is the going rate for a set for a 79 XS 1100 special carbs...provided I
can find a set...??? The ones that came with bike has been severely and
I mean severely abused / neglected...I got everything moving again and
hope clean enough for it to run...we will see...Thanks again !!!

Remember, look at what you are buying very carefully because another set of 79 Mikunis are still a set of 37 year old carburetors.

Some here (myself included) have changed over to more modern 1998-2002 Kawazaki ZRX 1200 carbs. They need very little modification to plug and play and their ease of tuning and ability to hold a tune will astound you (my humble opinion). Either way, be careful what you buy and get a hands-on inspection if possible before you part with your hard earned $$

It appears that a 98 Kaw ZRX 1200 has 4x Keihin CVK36...I'll have to do a
little research to see what needs to be done to get them working on a XS...
            Thanks for the tip...
