  • Harley Sportster muffler question

    I have 2 of these and they will fit nicely on the head pipes I'm planning to install. They look very restrictive looking inside them though.

    Advice?

    I don't know, but I'll make an observation. Those mufflers appear to be setup for a crossover, in which case each cylinder would be using both mufflers at the same time. Maybe they need to be more restrictive when they're setup that way? JAT
    I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

      muffs

      I have two sets of them without the crossover. They are very loud, and meant to be installed on the same side. I never put them on an 1100. Heard one set on a XS650, very loud.
      put something smooooth betwen your legs, XS eleven
      79 F (Blueballs)
      79 SF (Redbutt)
      81 LH (organ donor)
      79 XS 650S (gone to MC heaven)
      76 CB 750 (gone to MC heaven)

        I thought of that too Doug but Rockin'D;s XS is in my garage and it has basically the same mufflers on it except for the opening for a crossover. Looking inside them they look the same.

        I tried to take a pic of the inside but it didn't turn out well. About half way through the baffle on the inlet side it's blocked off and there are several rows of tiny holes in the baffle pipe. The outlet looks the same but there appears to be less tiny holes in the baffle.

            Actually, several have used variations of those on their XSesssive. Your just gonna have to cut two circle plates, tack them around in several places, then weld all the way around.

              How's his bike run with them?

              One thing's for sure - if you hook 'em up with the crossover you should have less back pressure than without it. Probably get in the way of the center stand too, though. Okay, that's two things.

                Doc's bike ran good before it lost compression on one cylinder.

                The crossover can't be hooked up with the mufflers on opposite sides of the bike. The orientation of the bracket mounts and the crossover inlets won't allow it. They will have to be blocked.

                A freeze plug for an automotive engine should do nicely to plug them.

                  If they work well on his you'd think they'd work fine on yours too. Freeze plug idea sounds like a good one. You gonna weld 'em in?

                    Wasn't planning on welding. I'll just find some with a good snug fit, drive them in and spike the edges of the inlet.

                      Those are stock mufflers, probly not too loud.......only concern might be rejetting.....try em and see....

                          Don't some Harley pipes have catalytic converters built into them? These aren't some of those are they?

                              Find the righr size and weld them in.
