I didn't mean to detract from the fuel line clamp discussion. The stand tubes will go back on the petcocks some day. They were pretty well clogged a few years ago and I got all the rust I could out of the tank. I figured I'd let inline filters take care of it until they stayed pretty clean.
As far as the mixture screw, the XJ carbs don't have the tapered tip that tends to get stuck as in earlier years. My problem was it would turn back out about 1.5 turns then the threads would bind and not enough of the slot to overcome. Always parts to have left handed drill bits available.
