Yes the 404 was the worst tire I've ever used. Like riding on skates when the pavement is wet. I took mine off and gave them away right after my first rally. Bridgsone battleaxes are what I have on the LH and SF now and love them. I'm putting Continentals on the E. Pablo see if they will take back the 404's and get the battleaxes inlieu.
I exchanged the 404's for pirelli mt 66. dealership couldn't find battleaxes that fit my cruiser
Always Remember when comparing prices to included the $ exchange and shipping cost. Plus the risk of customs clearance charges at the border which is something you can not control.

Phil I paid about $330 at the dealership for pirellis. I checked out the site you mentioned and paid $260.... free shipping, no taxes,no enviro govt tax, and a discount of $10 because I bought two tires! Tx man!
The PO did no maintenance at all for years, so originally what should have been a scuff and shine turned into something else altogether. The deeper we looked, the worse it got until now we have a motor sitting in a frame. The back end is prep'd but the wheel isn't on properly, it was just stuck on the axel to move the thing out of the way, so I could get my bikes out until Pablo can get back to work. We had some missing patrs and broken bolt issues in key locations so until those are addressed and drilled out, we are marking time. May not look like it but vast progress has been made to date.
The gold thing in the background is my E, i've been working on. Just some small parts needed for it and I'll be lighting a fire in the power plant soon.
Awesome progress guys...its really quite an evolution from wanting to sell it to keeping it and meeting like minded XSives to help bring it back to its former glory...Priceless...cant wait to see the final results...
Nice work, guys! <sigh> Is it a bad thing that I recognize all the parts and I know where they go and which bolts were likely to be the problem children?

not at all...but it does remind you of what you gotta do...i spose...LOL
When I purchased my SF, the forks were stuck in the compressed position because one of the forks was bonked on the outside, having a small dent that caused it to stick.
I thought it looked more muscular in that position.
I put it back to stock, but I was thinking some mod folks would appreciate the look.

The rebuild continues. Front fork cleaned, caliphers rebuilt, added ss brakes, problems with the triple trees so getting new ones, ignition switch problems, getting new one, cylinder head valve problem so getting new one, bike wont be ready this year.
I tried to rotate Pablo's motor but it bound up partially through the rotation. I didn't know if it was hitting a stuck valve or not so I stopped right there. I wound up pulling off the valve cover and through some trickery, was able to get the cams out without having to rotate the motor beyond the binding. Once the cams were out, I was able to put some aircraft lub (it foams up and gets into all the spaces) down the plug holes. With the valves fully retracted I have been working the crank through full rotations. I believe the issue was just rust collars on the sleeves. I will still move the pistons into a neutral position half way up the sleeves and install the cams one at at time and rotate them manually with a wrench to check the action of the buckets, then remove that one and do the other next. A bit time consuming but it's the only way to know for sure if the valves are all doing their thing. Good sign though was that all the buckets returned to the upper position and nothing is hitting during the rotation of the crank. All cyclinders have compression so I'm pretty sure the rings and pistons are functional. If Pablo can locate a good upper and lower 3 tree and a three wire ignition, It's possible to finish assembly and fire it up next visit. Aside from bleeding the brakes (time) all the bull work is completed!
bike has been released from the Frankford hospital by Dr Mack to recover.
upon arrival to its old garage, the SF notices a new chick has moved in....
"why hello there"
lots of pics of the rebuild here
I got the P.O. to come along and learn about his old bike.
We've agreed the bike will be mine except for the Ride for Dad weekend, when Jim can borrow my bike!
I cant thank Mack enough for having patience with me. I'm a slow learner but I am learning.
2016 is gonna rock when we get this baby going.
