What we're saying is that you need to clean the site glass from the INSIDE of the clutch cover, that's why putting on the sidestand pulls the oil away from it. THen you could get some long Q-tips, or rubber band them to a long stick or piece of clothes hanger or wire, to allow you to get a good angle to get to the view glass. Spritz the Q-tip with the carb cleaner first. Often it's just gum/varnish, SLUDGE that sticks to the glass on the inside and prevents viewing. Once you get it off, you should be able to view the oil level much better.
