Starting a new project 80 G 24,000 miles Clean bike guessing sitting 10 to 15 plus years. I don't know much of the history has some nice rear shocks speedo changed 160. this bike looks well cared for before the long park. From what I know "Aches N Pains" picked it up at an estate sale he might be able to chime in with more.

I just ran compression 1# 120 2# 120 3# 90 4#90 test done with fresh battery no oil in cylinders This bike has not run in years.

What would you do ? Is this a major concern? Would this be worth continuing with getting it to run get some time on it and test again or get into the bike further before going further?

If it were me

I would try the marvel mystery oil trick. Put some in each cylinder .. turn the motor over by hand a few times and let it sit a while. Might do the trick... check the compression again and go from there.

Check and adjust the valves if they're tight; tight valves can drastically effect compression. I did that on my XJ project and saw more even and much higher numbers after....

no carbs on the bike put a little oil in no change I will check valves clearance that makes some sense

IMHO, if it were me,while on the center stand, I would check the fluids as in motor oil, MD oil and FD oil, turn the engine over by hand and if all seems good, hook up good battery and clean fuel source and try to fire her up.

If she starts, run through the gears and listen to the engine and drive train for abnormal noises.

If all is good then proceed with the usual steps to bring her back to life.

For me, it's a huge motivater to hear the engine run, even if poorly, before getting in too far.

Steve you called it valves adjusted 120 across the board carbs being cleaned and will see if its got life tomorrow

Adjusted the valves I don't think they were ever done. Rotated the engine a few times. I got compression at 120 on all 4 I am thinking OK for a 10 year plus sit I am finishing up the carb clean and will be bring it life this weekend
I will report out when I hit the switch. I would think the compression will come up with a good run. I am anxious to see this breathe. life Nothing I enjoy like bringing one back the first time.

Be careful adjusting valve clearances on a motor that hasn't run for years, the valves seats on the cylinders that sat with a valve open can corrode swelling up the seat making the valve clearance bigger, this would also make the compression lower on those cylinders.

As Schming says, I always check everything is OK, fire up the motor and get it warmed through, once cold again check clearances, settings, the valve seats clean themselves up.

As Steve says do the valve clearances if they are too small.

Re-check the clearances once you've had the motor running.

Float Bowls Passage Clogged

I am having a tough time getting the enricher passages clean and clear on 2 of the float bowls anyone have a good method?

I have tries solvent, wires, needles, air pressure no luck Can they be drilled?

Try a guitar string .012"-.014" (stiffer than any wire) and keep prodding away at it using some PB blaster. I would NOT recommend drilling them.

Well Phil you gave me a heck of an Idea. I took a hypodermic needle 24guage filled it with PB Blaster fit right in and blasted it clean. Been on this all day it worked in less than a minute. Yes it is for diabetic use
