Usually not. Having said that, I've always just put them in engines just as they come out of the box.
XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Geezer regulator/rectifier. Stainless 4 into 2 exhaust. Auto CCT (Venturer 1300) SOLD. New project now on the go. 1980 European model.

      Tune up

The gaps may or may not be correct out of the box. Definitely check them before installing.

        spark plug gap

I side gapped mine about two years ago. Seemed to much improve the way the F idled and accelerated. There is a post on here somewhere that tells of how to do that. I was told the plugs would not last long. Now after about 10K, it is starting to run rough. I will pull the plugs tomorrow and check them out. Let you know then.http://www.xs11.com/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif

My new NGK plugs for Enterprise had to be regapped out of the box - at least a couple were off a bit we found so I am glad it was checked.

I always check them and almost always they are correct.

But, you never know if they have been dropped, so that's why I always check them.

I just did mine last weekend and bought some NGK BPR6ES the gaps were wide around .035 so I gap them to .030 the manual calls for .028 to .032

So in the middle for me and it runs great.

Geeze, now I feel dumb and entitled. Never thought to check my plus, as I assumed they were always pre-gapped. I find them easily available at Advance, Auto Zone and O'Reilly's, as well as two small bike shops. I even got the NGK Irridiums @ Advance for $6/pc.

NGK 7333 is the same as BP6ES. The plug will say BP6ES, the box will say 7333 which is the number the auto parts store uses.
