    Hey Nubian,

I don't think you are to use a MIGHTYVAC, but just your regular SYNCH gauge. You have it set to measure the carb, and then you just turn the pilot screw out and you should see the vac/synch reading rise or fall, you then turn the pilot screw to the point where you see the most amount of vacuum on the synch gauge, then go to the next carb, repeat. Once you get all 4 firing as strong as they can to pull the most vacuum, THEN you RESYNCH them using the synch screw. This technique replaces the colortune as the engine is now running as strong as it can with the optimal fuel/air flow/mixture it can handle=the max vacuum per the pilot screw setting!

Thanks, did that, with the rpm hovering around 500 and synched, I then increased the rpm to 1K. Runs fine when warm, but if cold, I have to leave choke open 1/2 way till he warms up in couple of minutes or he'll die

After all 4 are equal, start with carb #1 and move the mixture screw in or out and closely watch the gauge and find the highest reading. It will be such a small increase that you will have to watch for it very closely. Once the highest reading is obtained, reset the main idle (#3) so the engine is running no higher than 1100 RPM and repeat the procedure with the remaining 3 carbs. After doing all 4, resync the carb bank so they are all equal, set main idle at 1100 RPM and you are done, mixture screws will be set correctly. GL

Also you want to do your syncing with the engine fully warmed up. Place a box fan by the front of the engine to prevent overheating.

              DONE!!!!!!!!!
Now waiting for engine to cool and see if choke needed from a cold start. Fingers crossed

                Oh well

Runs like a top AFTER warm up. Starts a low idle 500 w/o choke then warms up to 1100rpm.
Am I asking too much from this old engine. It was in my garage the whole time. i now have it out in the heat outside right now it's about 80-85, will see if it still needs choke to start.

That sounds about normal. What happens when the engine is cold and you start with half enrichment, and with full enrichment?

Well after a couple of hours in the sun choke practically not needed
Runs smoothly by itself cold at half and full seems to bog down when cold starting.

If it runs good after a minute I wouldn't worry about it that much unless you want to go thru your carbs again, maybe a problem with the enrichment circuit? Maybe flooding while sitting with a leaking float valve. JAT

You said it runs good now when warmed up, idle stays at 1100 RPM, correct?. Please describe what symptoms you are having when the engine is cold.

Not sorted out, just prioritizing, It's running but not optimum. Headlight is a must.
Checked battery while running, above 14. good, checked all connections, now have to check yellow wire from generator through harness for breaks.
Anything else I should be looking for?
