OK, there's a test procedure for that and I'm looking for it but it's not where it's supposed to be............dammit!

    • kinked fuel line? How much gas in the tank? Is the octy still on there?

      • Here's the test procedure for the Virago load sensor, the XJ should be similar. I found that with the volt meter installed for this test that when vacuum was applied during the test the voltage dropped.

        • OMFG... can I bypass this stupid octy fuel vacuum regulator BS?@@??!?! I keeps stopping the sending of fuel to any given random damn side till I turn it from ON to PRIME then back again or mess with it... would it be bad to take it off and run a line from the rear to petcocks right to the carbs and just leave it on ON?! and plug the vacuum hole on the manifold???

            • Is that how to correctly bypass it?
From the rear two petcocks to the carbs then plug the manifold? and obviously plug the front two petcocks?

              • OK I got rid of that thing. Looks much better too.

Bike currently idles and revs great, only with an occasional backfire when revv'd let off then revv'd quickly again.

NOW this is how it was LAST time, and as soon as I got down the block it started running terribly.

                • You can run it from the rear nipples and still have on, off, and reserve. The front nipples are only for prime and are unnecessary with the octy gone.

Run them from the opposite petcock as the carb your connecting to. Xing them under the carb intakes. I have small lawn mower porous stone filters in each line and I have the lines connected to each other in an H pattern before the filters. This equalizes the tank and if there is an issue with flow from one side or the other it will still feed all 4 carbs

                  • OH and to get it running ok at this point, my pilot screws are about 7 turns out... with the stock 47.5 pilots. and two over mains.

Popping seems to be coming from the right side... and the #4 carb's pilot screw was pretty rough to turn out this last time, like it is almost crossthreading or something but not quite, could those two things be related?

                          • See Greg, you're doing great, you don't have to be an XJ guru like Jerry!

Dylano, sounds like you've found a major problem to the performance, yep, the bike won't run right without fuel! Now, with the pilot screw 7 turns out, as has been stated in previous posts that once you're over 3-4 turns out, it's time to go up in jet size. Now that the carbs can get and KEEP a consistent fuel level, you'll probably find you'll be able to start having success in your tuning efforts....keep at it!

                            • I'm wondering if the idle mix screw issue isn't related to #1 the fuel delivery problem, #2 the sync problem. It's impossible to tune carbs without being able to sync them properly.

Likely broke off a chip of brass, and it wedged down in the threads.
