Yes new ones are in and I believe I put them in the correct order!
It would sem strange for the o-ring to go BETWEEN the washer and the spring...
It is spring, then washer then o-ring correct?! haha
I can't get my carb's tuned properly with exhaust and pods. ):

Carb Tuning
No one wants to hear this, but after reading so many posts where there are aftermarket parts being used, it appears that these parts (other than stock) do one thing really well - cause a bucket load of tuning problems seemingly every time.
It is a fact that a lot of the bikes have aftermarket exhaust due to a PO changing it or exhaust parts going bad, but suitable replacements are out there that do not require making any changes to the carbs.
The assumption that changing exhaust and/or going to pod filters means that carburetor modification is required appears to be somewhat of a myth.
It would appear that leaving the carburetors exactly stock after any exhaust or air filter change is the only method that has proven to work best. This is compared to changing exhaust or air filtration and picking jet numbers out of the air to put in the carbs.
All you have to do is read the posts.
In conclusion, make one change at a time, test the results, then and only then decide if something else needs to be done.
My 2 cents.

I read somewhere that you should only get smaller pilots of you can screw the pilot screw in all the way and the bike still runs.. is that false info too?!
Another urban myth.....you been readin' Wiki or sumptin'?
In the XJ's carbs case, that would be because the teeny-tiny O-rings on the recessed mixture screws are either trashed or gone. Did you put new ones in, and did you put washer/O-ring in correct order on mixture screw?

I envy uyou for the time you grew up in.I was a teen ager in the 60's and 70's. People tell me I'm stuck in the past.
I'm NOT stuck, I just choose to remain.
This AWFUL new stuff that repeats the SAME line and the same guitar riff OVER AND OVER AND OVER............it must have taken the all of 20 minutes to write a song. The best stuff is the remakes of the old stuff but it ends up butchered too.
Yeah, I'm an old hippy and I don't know what to do. Ha ha..
No interest in the mufflers?Leave a comment:

They'll all say that, meaning Mikuni style. If it ain't in a genuine Mikuni packaging or have the curly Mikuni logo on them, guarentee they ain'y Genuine Mikuni

I'm a HUGE fan of 60's and 70's music, and old blues, even 20's and 30's stuff, and old soul... and old, well yeah I like music, a lot.Nope, no pods. I trust the Yammi engineers. No complaints here.
I only have a Mac exhaust because the stock sets are getting pretty scarce and priced about the same as a new Mac. New always lasts longer.
Cool poster huh? It's my 16 nyear old daughters. She loves old rock. Crazy about the Beatles.
I have a set of pretty decent xj mufflers if you are interested?Leave a comment:

BTW, if your gonna run pods it's no big deal at all to pull those carbs and swap out jets. Start small and work your way up to the best combo.Leave a comment:

I can't see if you are running pod filters or not...If you look in my signature you'll see what I ride. I run 1 size over in both mains and pilots and my bike runs great. I could probably go 2 sizes and get a little better performance but I don't want to get to the point that I'm getting terrible gas mileage.
I make a lot of long trips and gas is expensive.
I have that same Pink Floyd poster hanging directly to my right, right now!
If you dont have pods, then it seems like I should get larger than one over pilot jets... becasue I DO have pods, and more open exhaust than you.Leave a comment:

SO:
Does anyone dispute the idea of getting these pilots:
ONE LARGER THAN STOCK
and these mains:
FOUR LARGER THAN STOCK
EVEN though my bike wont even want to start with the current 3 over pilots, and the pilot fuel screw one turn out?
I read somewhere that you should only get smaller pilots of you can screw the pilot screw in all the way and the bike still runs.. is that false info too?!
Those jet choices are according to the recommendation chart supplied earlier.Leave a comment:

Those are the SMALL Mikunis, used on older single cyl. two strokesOH MORE INFO AGAIN!
The mains I got looked more like main air jets... like they are smaller in overall outer diameter than the oines I replaced and they are the exact same size as the air jets, but with a smaller hole obviously...
The plastic bag they came in said MIKUNI MAIN JETS on them and seemed official...
Maybe they meant main AIR jets???
Thanks for those links though!
As soon as I figure out what sizes to get next I'll order from there... Fast shipping??
.....but are used for the air jet in back of carb bell on these vacuum slide carbs, which should be 185's........47.5's for pilots stock.

That makes sense, I figured it didn't matter, it sealed around the head with the brass washer thing in there, and it is the hole that counts right? hahaLeave a comment:
