    Main jets

I finally got around to pulling off my carbs and have the jets all out. While cleaning them I noticed some of my main jets have 4 holes while the other two have 3...I watched the carb cleaning video and it said not to worry about which jet went where because "they're all the same". These aren't and now I really hope I put them back in their respective carb. Why are they different?

I think you are speaking of the emulsion tubes James ( needle jets) under the main jets. The ones with fewer holes go in the center (2 & 3) carbs to help with cooling.

Be sure all your mains are the same size also.

Thanks for the clarification Greg. Looks like the PO had put the #2 and 3 emulsion tubes in carbs 3 and 4. Just finished cleaning off the toasted paper gaskets on the boots and got some Yamabond on. Now time to check/adjust my floats. Need to check my manual for what the clearances are. I do understand the ruler goes on the lip where the gasket sits, not the edge which I've read is a common mistake.
Relieved to see diaphragms are in top notch shape without any holes or tears.

The float height is 1" from the carb body gasket surface to the top of the brass float. Check all 8 sides and bend them equally. It also helps to slightly bend the float bulbs inwards toward the center of the carb, this way no chance of them hitting the sides of the bowl/gasket. GL

Edit: doesn't really matter if the ruler sits on the lip or on the lower surface, just as long as all 8 are done the same.

All my carbs were set right at 1" except #3 which was a smidge below-possibly why my right exhaust would smoke a little during warm up. Got the emulsion tubes in the correct carbs.
Stopped last night after getting the carbs put back together. Didn't feel like trying to get them back on the bike in the dark. Anxious to see what I'll have after I sync them. Nothing really bad-just a lot of varnish and rust residue in the bowls.
As an added bonus I found a muddobber nest in the rubber air port going into the filter box. Looks like space will be at a premium when I got to get the carbs back in...
