Was the engine also powdered ? TIA ! Don'e
Yes done, I sent the frame for powder coating. I soda blasted the engine and used black VHT enamel.......

What a cracking motor!!!
What is that ring on the side of the rear fender under the rear seat cowl? Registration or road tags?
Thanks. it's a road tax disc. They were got rid of this year, so no more bikes marred by that thing!

Thanks, Marco. The sound on the vids is deceiving. The engine actually sounds exactly as it should.....

James if I may please ? Small bits were sent with the frame for powder, like triple tree, center/side stand, switch gear, headlight, gauge covers, foot pegs, mid/FD, etc. ?
How much beside engine is done with VHT ?
I take it then that the VHT is durable enough for normal abuses and possible minor fuel/oil spills ?
I put together a VHT kit to do an exhaust consisting of 2K° flat blk and clear, looks good on my sample I now have a couple exhaust sets rough enough to use it on.
Are you using the standard gloss blk VHT ?
Sorry I ask so much, prying into your methods but I'm compelled by the artistry of your work !!!!!
TIA Don'e

heck, Done, none of it's a secret. I only sent the frame, swing arm, battery holder, rear fender brace, stands and a few other bits for powder coating. The triple tree is black xylene paint and the switch gear is PJ1, although next time I'll use VHT instead as PJ1 in Europe has been emasculated chemically! Gauge covers are VHT.
The VHT dries in a few hours but it has to be cured at 100c for an hour and then acquires resistance to chemicals etc over the next few weeks. It is OK for minor spills althoughI tested a bit by dunking it in gasoline.....it came off! But, in normal use it's fine.
For you in the USA, PJ1 Satin black case paint is where it's at. You still have the old, unadulterated formula which is brilliant. I spoke with PJ himself earlier this year,as he phoned me from the USA to confirm that the EU had banned his product and that it had been changed to something inferior. He actually admitted it and said how sorry he was. But, for now, you have the proper stuff jb the USA. I would use that if I could get it as it is 99.9% like OEM and nothing shifts it...

Just a quickie to say that the Viton chunks I used between the cooling fins are absolutely fine, even with a really hot engine. There's no sign of shrinkage, or melting or anything untoward........

One other point...I upgraded my remote fuel tank from an empty oil container to a luxurious grass mower tank. It really is ideal for tuning the bike...no fuel tank propped up to get at the adjustment screws and get damaged. It makes life much easier (and a lot safer) when syncing or testing carbs for leaks etc. I ran a single piece of pipe to a T-piece. The tank cost me $1 on eBay!

Sold all my XS's to Eastcoaster but still love to keep up with you guys. This is the best cycle forum on the web.
Thanks. This current project should come out looking like the complete bike in the pix. Probably a little bit better. I'm waiting for the tank and panels to come back from the sprayshop and should have them in about ten days. So, hopefully I'll be posting pix of the completed project very soon!

I'm looking for four of the plastic covers that go on top of the mixture screws on the carbs... They are usually white or yellowish with age and they push on top of the four mixture screws at the front of the carbs, just near the inlet manifolds. Can anyone sell me some please? Or I could do a nice deal on a couple of rear left side wheel bearings as a swap

Do you have a well stocked hardware store? You may find small nylon caps there, or perhaps something I've not thought of.
Yes, but the thing is, I have to get OEM caps etc for my rebuild projects. They have to be as close as possible to original. The OEM caps have screwdriver slots in them and a little bit that sticks out, supposedly to stop people messing with the emissions.
