Marty,
Don't feel too bad about the rain,
It hasn't been above 15 degrees here for almost a week,
I can't get to diagnose/strip/gut my 700 maxim.
Heres a little fuel for the fire.
Nobody could tell me that my post "sweet handling machine"
Wouldn't benefit from a fork brace or two or three.
Not to mention ss brake lines.
How much do you think a 50 ft. roll might be?

James, other than the speed limiter removal, which I subsequently took back off, I have not changed my bike at all. I don't need to fill it full of bolt on crap, in an attempt to 'improve' it when I'm perfectly happy with it the way it is.
Each to his own. I prefer original, and learn to ride it how it comes, warts and all.
And not once did I say that they 'leave the factory as good as they can be".
Actually I'm quite over this. You can prove your appendage is bigger by bolting on bits in the name of improvements as much as you like, but its not going to change my opinion of a fork brace as fitted to (and removed from) my XS11. It didn't make it better so I took it off. Couldn't see a problem with that then, can't see a problem with it now. Apart, perhaps, from the howls of indignation from others.

I've had a boring rainy Sunday. I came here to stir the pot. As I recall, the issue with the XJR is my long legs. They're folded a little tight on that bike. It's not an issue here anyway, as I can't have one here in the Land of Harley-Davidson.
Ha ha I thought so, re the pot.
NO..you CAN'T have one! But if you did....you'd love it

I think you've possibly misunderstood me here. It's not about appendage size or not learning how to ride it as it comes. And I fully understand that you prefer to leave yours alone, and why shouldn't you, if that's what you want?
For me personally, after the rigours of restoring a 1981 XS1100 and a 1975 GL1000 and putting them back to standard, as if they just left the showroom, I've been having a bit of fun being off the leash in changing the XJR. No doubt someone in the future will curse me for it, as I did the PO's of the two classic bikes.
I like to think of it as ' the pursuit of excellence' in terms of actual performance and this has necessitated doing things which you prefer not to do to yours. To continue the metaphor, I've applied wart removal cream but you haven't because you don't mind the warts!
I always think of the first Spitfires which everyone praised and quite rightly. But....someone couldn't resist tweaking them by countersinking all the rivets on the plane.....and it flew at 40mph faster.
So....no offence, I hope? I mean, we both have the XJR1300 don't we? And they are great aren't they? And most XSives reading this canthave one, can they, because they aren't allowed in the USA.: I mean, poor old Marty has to try and convince himself that they are too small, based on a distant memory (probably false memory syndrome) of seeing one in Leipzig but we both know really why he's saying that, don't we?

A fatter seat would do it. It is a thin seat on the XJR. The XS seat is fatter and increases the ride height.
I was thinking....since it's rainy and you're bored... Why don't you measure the height of the XS up to the frame tubes, then the top of the seat, the length from front wheel to back wheel, height at the top of the steering head, distance between wheel spindles, height to top of fuel tank
I'll do the same here. I'm curious.... And if you make excuses and say you can't be bothered, everyone will know that it's because you really do want one and that you really did imagine that one in Leipzig

Keep in mind height is not the same as inseem. Some 6'-8" giants are all chest and torso, some 6'-2" folks are all legs. Even in height we are not all created equal it seems. . And that can change the way a bike or car fits.

LMFAOOO!!!! A sincere side-splitting laugh from the few posts above!
I think Marty ought to post pix of his inseam. We need to bottom this problem out and find out if he's a giant with all chest and torso or like me, all legs. Or since he should have the tape measure out already, maybe post the measurement.

My height is in my legs. My Special is adjusted with the bars way down until they touch the tank. Highway pegs allow for some relief to my knees.
TC is third from the left at 6'6". I am on the right at 6'4".
Bonz may say anything fits that he can get onto or into. In his world, he has to duck for all doors. Fork brace doesn't help.
The measuring has to wait. I'm stepping out to go to work. My XS11 is a Special. I'm pretty sure my XS650 Special has greater distance from the top of the seat to the top of the pegs than my XS11.
