    Grasshopper,

I see floor space in yours. Dead giveaway. Mine is a minefield of parts and tools and junk.

When I get home I will take a pic despite my embarrassment.

      Steve

Very nice SG, I hope to do mine proud.

So the info you supplied about the carbs helps a ton. I was unsure about the second set of "T's". The airbox I am going with will needs to be drilled and I have the brass tubes from the crusty airbox, I discarded.

About the jetting, I think the carbs are correct for the motor. I had a few e-mails back and forth with the "Mothership" (Yamaha UK) about the history of this project and they said the "Engine S/N 3H3-005607 related to a 78 XS1100", but a follow on e-mail stated "XS1100 SF". Was there an SF in 78?

Here are the rear wheel spacers that I have come up with:

The first two AFAICT are off a Standard. The exploded parts view, online, shows these going back to back, sandwiching the Cast piece for the Caliper? Or sandwiching the stamped Tension Bar?

...And I am guessing from your post, Steve, this is the Special spacer that goes inside of the cast piece.

At first I thought I had two different iteration's of the Standard spacer, but the parts list shows two for the Standard...

P.S. I have a check in the mail for a wire harness from Andreas Weiss, way cool.

        Hey Steve

Those handle bars on that SG you did, are they OE or where did you get them?

I am looking to get rid of the rototiller bars I have now.

The top two spacers shown are in fact the two versions of the same part. The top one is the 'late' design (and service replacement), the bottom one is the early style. Both of these are the outer spacer for the standard wheel set-up only. The bottom pic is the 'Special' inner spacer. The standard one will be .3" thinner.

The bars I used are from PartsNMore, I don't remember the number but they had a 4" rise and 6" pullback IIRC. Pretty close to the OEM 'standard' bars.

No, not yet, but I am on the look out. It looks like the US spec pegs will suffice, may be a little tight...

                    Steve

Thanx for the link to the carb cleaning thread, I already went through mine.

Everything internally was clean, so I just flushed them briefly. I replaced the float valves and two of the choke plungers, them puppies ain't cheap. I checked float height and replaced the bowl packing.

A little tight? Probably be ok if you take a size 3 boot.

Note the position of the footpegs. On the US model, they're mounted with the front alloy mounting plate bolt visible behind them, on the "euro" type, the pegs have the bolt clearly visible to the front of them.

Yeah, I had thought about fabricating some pegs to shift rearward if the linkage gets tight. The motor is still not in the frame, so...

I have two complete sets of front pegs that I have torn down to powder coat. I might cannibalize one set for a Euro set. Pegs should not be that hard. Do you have some closer images of the Euro pegs, that I could use as reference?

The turnbuckle/connecting rod link, that I have, has to be cut and welded to get the right length.

I love that US version, looks like a cross between a Special and a Standard with that seat and side covers. Does it have a 16 or 17 inch rear wheel ?

It is fully standard and all stock with 17" rear wheel. At least, it appears so.

As you can see, the euro gearlever tip will end up very close to a stock mounted US footpeg.
