Any tricks to pulling the alternator rotor without the Yamaha puller tool? 3 jaw puller work?

The puller is just a bolt, someone here can tell you the exact size and thread. I can't remember right off the top of my head.
I have gotten them off without the puller and without damage by just 2 or 3 good smacks with a hammer on the sides near the base. The vibration loosened them.Greg

The bolt is a 16mm X 1.5 thread. The "Tool" is listed with those threads, I was not sure if the end was anything special or not.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Yes, I've used 3 jaw pullers, but if you have the proper bolt, as mentioned, along with an impact, it works much easier. Just make sure you grease the threads of the bolt if you find one, otherwise too much friction is lost going against the threads instead of pushing against the crank end.
With the 3 jaw puller, get it as tight as you can, then a couple good hard shots to the head of the puller with a hammer will generally dislodge the rotor and send it flying across the floor. I have no idea how two pieces of beveled metal get stuck together so bad.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.
You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Gears are out!
Ok, I have no idea how you guys get those gears out without splitting the cases!
The engine that’s going into the bike has pristine gears so I plan on just swapping the washer position. I only had to split the case half’s by about ½ inch, should I pull the half’s apart to clean and redo the sealing surface? If I have to do that can I use the Permetex that’s on the shelf or do I need to the 60 mile round trip to the stealership to get Yammabond?
Since I have both case half’s apart should I put the kick start gears in – is it worth the effort?
I know its kinda cool but really the only time I used the kick starter was because it was there. With the removable lever you cant ride with it on and if the battery is dead the kick starter won’t help anyway. I guess the only thing it would be useful for is if I blew the starter – but it is kind of cool.Scott

If you have the cases open, and you have the kick start parts, you might as well put it in!Nathan

You want them sealed, I am not certain but I might make the trip for the 3-Bond or Yamabond. I think there is a different more generic brand stuff that is the same thing. Permatex will work for the bond, but I am not certain if it would be thicker than the 3-bond and make any difference to the bearings or seals where the case halfs meet.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
