  • Where do these wires go?

    Hello All

I have rebuilt the wire harness and have mostly installed it on my 79 xs1100f, however I can't figure out where these wires go. They look like ground wires so I assume they mount to the frame, but where?

    Hi Rev,
they go on one of the bolts that hold the regulator/rectifier onto the frame.

            Hi Rev,
yes. Well, they both go to the rear bolt on my SG anyway.
The reg/rect has a conductive metal case so I'd suppose it don't matter which bolt is used or even if both of them are.
Attach them whichever way looks the tidiest.

You all were so quick with a reply so I thought I would ask another question. I have almost all my connections made but these two wires have me stumped. By the way I am color blind so my wireing diagram is very hard to figure out. If you can help I would appreciate it.

                    Hi Jared,
the wiring diagrams in Clymers are all black and white with the colors tagged by a letter code.
But that don't help if you can't tell what colors the wires are, eh?
I had problems getting my revised rightside indicator to work when Mr Stupid didn't notice that a dark brown wire was in fact a black one until the 3rd time the fuse blew.
Jayel sez the wires in the photo go to the horn.
Let me advise that you connect them to the relay that powers the Stebel-Nautilus mini air horn that you should purchase.
                    139dB really gets you noticed.

                        Hi Jared,
I bent up a bracket from a strip of ~2" wide x 1/8" thick aluminum.
The bike end bolts to the right side lower triple tree clamping bolts
and the horn end is bent so the horn faces forward.
Note that you must use the relay that comes with the horn or it won't get enough power to work properly.

the Harley dealer I worked for back in the late 60's 70's was color blind too, of course wiring was simpler back then (no ground wires) two colors for him lighter and darker LOL

Yah, this wiring stuff sucks when you can't see the damn colors. However, my guess is the wires are pretty faded anyhow so it might be hard for all you non color blind people as well. Anyhow, can anybody help me find a wire for my led running lights to tap into. The lights indicate that one wire is black and the other red. I believe the black one would be ground, right? And the red for power, right? If I tie all the black wires together and ground them that should be acceptable, but where should I get the power for the red wires? Thanks

Connect the red wire of your LED lights to the soild blue wire in the headlight bucket or at the tail light. it will supply power when the key is switched to the on position. Black wire to chassis ground.
