Jardine spaghetti pipe headers? Good stuff maynard. If you are doing a hatchet-job on the bike, good luck..no help from me. If you have the Jardines, sell them rather than shortening them, because you can shorten some worn-out stock pipes for that and sell the Jardines.

          Hi Jeff and welcome,
rewiring's a bitch. You need a diagram to sort out all those effin' wires.
WTF, my BSA only uses 7 wires (OK, 10 if you want signals)
Your next investment should be a Clymer's manual, there's a wiring diagram in it besides all the other stuff.
There's laws about turn signals. Best you get some. See XS11 parts for sale forum.
Or MikesXS. They have affordable carb pods that say XS on them too.
Never mind how they look, bars should feel comfortable or you'll suffer.
Spaghetti pipes are OK. Stock pipes in good shape are eff nigh unfindable.
Don't cut anything more off the frame, it's suffered enough.
And clean the carbs. You'll se the term "triple clean" a lot in this list. It ain't just a phrase, it's what you gotta do. Sometimes more than once.
          BUT FIRST
That a cop would sell the bike rather than get it titled should tell you something.
Get it titled in your name before you spend any of your time and money on it.

Welcome! I agree, get a title first before you spend any other money on it. Sometimes it can be very difficult to get a title and you may not be able to get it.

Problem with hand signals is nobody (except those who use them) knows what they mean. To the general public you just look like an idiot flapping your arm. So you might be legal, but it is still stupid.

Now Nate, Stupid is as Stupid does....the stupid folks are the ones who do not know the signals. Now he might be ill-advised to rely on them, or misplacing his trust in the general public's observation skills.

It is not taught in any way anywhere anymore, so unless someone has the desire to learn (and honestly how many younger people these days WANT to learn....)they won't know.

You know Nate, I thought sure it was still in the Ohio drivers handbook, but I looked and it is not. Now THOSE are the stupid folks.

So what do bicycle riders do in your part of the world to advise they are turning ?

Nothing, they just turn. Unless they are the hardcore spandex clad semi pro cylcers and then maybe 50% use hand signals.
