if this has already been discussed, sorry. i have a stock '80 xs1100 special. i would like to replace/upgrade the ignition coils. does anybody sell new replacements that simply bolt on without a lot of mods to mounts or wiring? brand? part number? any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks

I'm not aware of any 'bolt-on' aftermarket replacements. There's some Honda units that will bolt on, but you'll be limited to finding used ones.

...or search Dynatek coil mod and PLEASE stay away from Mikes XS coils as they are the 3C type (Cheap-China-Crap)

We are finding that all of the coils from Mikes are pretty much junk. Failures in 5k miles or less. And since the turn over in ownership, things there seem to be even less quality parts in some cases.
I have installed the VF1000 coils in a couple XS1100s and it goes pretty smooth and easy. The toughest part is finding copper core wire from my experience. I have had no luck trying to use the carbon core wires, though others have been successful with the product.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
