If someone wants to steal the bike, they are going to anyway, regardless...

For the peace of mind, I installed an alarm system... it was about 170 euros (metasystem legos4), but it has a few nice functions.

It automatically blocks the ignition if the bike sits idle (without contact) for 50 seconds. It does not arm the alarm, so I can leave the keys in the bike while paying for gas or something.

I have to arm the system via remote (or disarm it). It will go into standby mode after 1 week, so it does not drain the battery. It does have its own battery, should someone try to cut the wires. It "notices" the classic stuff - tilt, voltage drop, vibrations etc... Also has a connector for GPS locator device, but I didnt get that one, as it costs a bit more.

Its not much, but kids wont steal it, professionals can, but you cant really prevent that.
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.
    (stole that one from I-dont-know-who)

I like those alarm systems with a silent mode that alerts only your remote if the bike is being tampered with. That way he won't get scared away by the horn and you can go to your bike and kick the s**t out of the guy stealing it, if you get there quick enough.

        What brand did you install?
The one I looked at had two components (horn and brain box) that were so large that there was no place to mount them that was not externally visible.
On later model bikes, with all their Tupperware panels, it might be easier to find a place to hide the boxes. CZ
