everybody likes the pinstriping, except me. i really don't like it. a local custom bike shop thinks they can wetsand it off and redo the clear coat over the gold paint. may do that next month. just had the valves adjusted, the carbs synch'd and adjusted, new stator and reg/rec, all new brakes, tires, battery, and all fluids/filters. it runs like brand new and very smooth from idle to 7,000rpm and it pulls like a freight train. i'm really looking forward to putting some miles on it when the weather cools off a bit. i now understand why some guys have more than one xs1100 and why they like them so much.Last edited by 650mark; 08-16-2012, 01:27 PM.

thanks. the entire bike looks like it just came out of the factory crate. it was properly stored for many, many years in a garage in colorado and then phoenix. the guy i bought it from is almost as anal as me when it comes to his bikes so when i found it i did not hesitate to buy it. most of my vintage bikes(about 8) have been pretty nice when found but this one is the nicest yet. those carbs still have never been off the bike, and the shop had to drill out the lead plugs to adjust them to get the mixture just right. now adjusted and synch'd the plugs have a slight tan color to them and throttle response is spot on. not knowing how far into the bike i wanted to get when i decided to get it back on the road again i replaced the old tires with new shinko 712's to keep the cost down. first time i ever bought anything other than dunlop d404's. i don't care much for the shinko's and will probably replace them in a few months with more dunlops. like i said before i'm really looking forward to getting some miles on this one. if it works out well this bike just might replace my vstar 1100 as my main ride.

Very nice scoot. everybody has an opinion. i like them and i've put fork gaitors on all of my vintage street bikes for the last 10 years. ever since stone chips in the forks ruined the fork seals on the bike that didn't have them. besides, i might want to go motocross on this one!

Wow thats really stunning...beautiful machine...i'm not a fan of pinstriping myself...but what yo have isnt bad at all...I could live with it...as far as the gators go...until motoman mentioned them I really didnt notice...so to each their own indeed. You have one of the finest examples of an XS650 that I have ever seen...and certainly rivals alot of the XS11s' on this board as well.1980 XS650G Special-Two
