That's about right. Did you tug on the wires and move them around while you were checking them?

Yes I did. Pulled, streched etc. Nothing happened. I did pull the plugs and #1 plug is black while all the others have a dark tan color to them. Switched #1 and #2 plugs went for a short ride (around the neighborhood), pulled #1 again and it is black. Attached plug wire to plug and grounded plug and started bike and there is a spark.
      What now?

Just cleaned carbs a month ago. Running with fule filters. No kinks in line.
Could it be a bad plug wire? #1 header is hot but Not as hot as the other 3.
Switched #1 plug wire to #4 plug and #4 to #1 and went for a short test ride. Still ran poorly. Did the spray test again on headers and #4 header is cooler than the others.

There you go, you answered your own question. You may have a bad spark plug cap or a poor connection to the one at #1. Try swapping the caps out.

They unscrew from the wire. Go ahead and trim the wire back about 1/4" while you have it apart to be sure you get good contact.

Before you go tearing up the coils to repace wires do what I said. It may be just that simple.

The wires are the Accel's with crimp on fittings. And don't you know I don't have any crimp on fittings hanging around. I found a spare reg wire and fitted it on and took it out for a run.......NICE....just like before. Smoth and fast. If this was video you would see me smile :-)

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUGGESTIONS.

                    Mike
