    Dampeners

I just started to reconditioned my failed motor mount Dampeners today. If it all comes out as I think it will, I should be able to refurbish four at at time for $13.00 canadian. Let me complete this and I'll run it by Steve with photo's he can touch up and maybe we'll have a technical tip everyone needs sooner or later.

      Motor mount questions:

Okay, now I've got the Poly bushings on the way, I was looking at the bike and where the mounts are and oh boy, the rear mounts look like they're gonna be a pain in the butt to swap out.

      Any ideas?
I was kinda thinking about supporting the motor with a jack while bike was on centerstand and then removing all the mounts. Then with all the mounts out, I can 'jack' up (or lower) the motor a few inches to get the rear bushings out and swapped, then lower (or raise) it back down and then do the fronts.

Any and all ideas/thoughts welcome. This will be my first time messing with motor mounts. I've played a little with the rear one, just once to replace foot pegs.

Let me complete this and I'll run it by Steve with photo's he can touch up and maybe we'll have a technical tip everyone needs sooner or later.
I can document my poly swap and Steve can put the 2 together or have 2 separate tips to post up.

I'll mention some things the tech guy that I talked to about these bushings said...

If you find that you need to mod the bushings for fit, he recommended freezing them before trying anything, the colder the better. At room temp, the plastic will tend to tear rather than cut. If you decide to enlarge the center hole, try to find a drill bit (in the proper size) for plastic (they are different). Let us know how this goes....
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Thanks Steve, I think that might be a big help if I find that things aren't fitting together well enough.

            rear dampeners

You probably won't have to change the lower front or rear dampeners. They are a bit different in design and not subject to the same environmental stress's as the front uppers. Have a look and if you still have rubber between the metal, your good. However if they do need changing you might get away with removing the front upper dampeners and stanchions, loosening the front lowers, disconnecting the drive shaft then removing the rear through bolt. You might be able to rock the motor forward enough on the front mounts to be able to gain clearance to remove the rear dampeners.May have to remove the battery box too. Not a quick easy job regardless considering it's riding season. Be a good winter project though.

Mack, thanks for the tip. From a quick inspection, the rears look okay. I might just do the front uppers and see if that helps/cures my vibration. Then I can plan on the other 4 for this winter when it's cooler out an I've got my SG up and running, that way I still have a bike to ride while the G is down.
