It sounds like it is either the metal to metal contact between the hub and wheel slipping (stiction, )when the wheel compresses the rubber bushings as the wheel rotates, or the o-ring rubber slipping and causing the noise, although that doesn't sound likely.
I'm getting ready for a trip to the left coast next week, (I'm riding the XS, not the XJ), so I don't have time to investigate until I get back, but if you delve in, be sure to post results. And the sizes given for the 0-rings don't look right for metric sized rings, so there is that problem. They may be special sized one for OEM use.
Anyway, I wouldn't park it, but I wouldn't plan any long trips, and if it gets worse, quit and fix. CZ
