normally (stock) which direction does the fuel tap levers point in the Off posistion on a 1980 XS1100SG? to the back or forward

1979 XS1100SF "Old Man" bought by my Dad brand new in 79, customized in 80 with Vetter, Standard tank, and touring seat. I inherited in 02 when Dad passed. Been riding it since 09. No resto, bike is a survivor...

There is! You just have to friend off the little stop tab at the top of the front Chrome plate and you might have to take an 1/8 " off the selector lever to clear the tank and then you now have an off position when the lever is up!Nathan

I've had the tank off a dozen times in tge last 6 months with no leaking. I can see the benefit of an off for storage thou. For just in case the diaphragm decides it doesn't wanna hold the fuel back any longer.Don,
