Are these plastic or fiberglass? May sound like a dumb question but I believe there is a difference in how these materials can be restored. Fiberglass has a gelcoat (?) Any insight would be helpful as this is the last bit of my winter pretty-up project. Thanks

They are 2 different kinds of plastic. The black part is a ABS plastic. The painted part is some other kind of plastic. I welded up some cracks on mine and the 2 plastics reacted differently to the heat. The black plastic melted better and the white plastic bubbled and started to burn way quicker.Nathan

Looking at the one I've got, it appears to be a reinforced plastic rather than a straight plastic. Doesn't look like fiberglass to me....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

My Pacifico cracked up. I repaired it using ABS glue like for plumbing. Sand to bare, glue, fiberglass cloth, ABS glue again to saturation. Don't do it in your basement. It'll harden up real nice and make a tight unit. I even pieced in pieces of ABS pipe that were heated in boiling water and flattened out. You'll need to put some kind of filler on later so you can sand to smooth and repaint. Haven't gotten that far with mine yet.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world.
