  • Boot/shaft

Hey all. Was cleaning up the bike yesterday and saw that the back side of my shaft boot is all tore up and not a drop of grease to be found. Any reccomendations for grease? And what can I do to this boot to make it last for the season?

The boot that joins the swing arm and the middle drive, no grease is in there anyway. The bearing son the U-joint are not really servicable. You could pull it apart and get grease in there, but by design they are not servicable.

As to the tears, you could try putting some electrical tape over the tears and then coating that with some RTV, or just use RTV depending on the size of the tear.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

            Boot

Too bad no one makes a boot for that like for front wheel drive cars that you can just kinda lace up.

Any way, I've got a couple used ones in good shape for $10.00 including shipping.

                Shipping to Canada

Always a little more ( maybe double) & troublesome with customs, etc.
So, $15.00 shipped to you. Got more of these than I'll ever need.

They do..........called a 'jiffy boot'.........and just hope U need it in a jiffy as it won't last. Normally, with cars, if the boot is shot, so is the CV joint............gee, we all are just full of info here........

                    boot

yeah, thats because the CV boot holds grease. luckily our xs's dont, but def need protection. i believe how many parts powersports plus has for our bikes. and didnt think that boot was still available, but having members like Greg and Marty (who must have inevitable time on their hands) we can always get a helping hand.

Heh heh....I have a lot of stuff saved in my favorites on my browser, probably too many, most of them parts sources. I figure I might need them someday or someone else will.

                        Hi XSives !

After reading this I checked my drive shaft boot and it has 2 holes in it, a nice 3 corner tear 1/2" in each direction right behind the frame down tube and another that looks like a rot hole on the top just in front of the rear spring clamp.
I called the nearest shop, $60 plus tax 1 day to get, checked on powersport/partzilla $47 including shipping. Don
